Potential Horvat trade destinations

Created by: Boldirev
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 16, 2022
Published: Nov. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
High end 2 Cs don't become available very often. IF the Canucks are trading him there will be multiple teams interested with the intent on resigning him. IMO it is extremely unlikely Horvat reaches free agency this summer as it is much more likely he resigns in Vancouver or extends with another team.

Horvat easily returns a 2023 first, a young roster player and a prospect, but what that mix actually looks like remains to be seen. The better the roster player, the less likely the prospect is high end and vice versa.

Don't really see long term fit with teams like Ottawa, Toronto (he doesn't want to play there anyway), Colorado and Minnesota.
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Berggren, Jonatan
  2. Wallinder, William [Reserve List]
  3. 2023 1st round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Yzerman has been unwilling to trade picks and prospects (rightly so), but this just might be an exception. Kasper is another possibility.
DET
  1. Horvat, Bo
Additional Details:
His "hometown" team and definitely a team he will extend with.
2.
VAN
  1. Drury, Jack
  2. Morrow, Scott [Reserve List]
  3. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Carolina has the assets, need and cap space for Bo. 50/50 if they make this kind of trade, but if they do, Horvat gives Carolina phenomenal C depth for the foreseeable future and fits perfectly on a cup contending team. Gunler and Heimosalmi are prospect possibilities as well.
CAR
3.
VAN
  1. Kulonummi, Kasper [Reserve List]
  2. Tomasino, Philip
  3. 2023 1st round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Nashville needs depth at center probably more than most organizations. Their prospect depth is not deep in C and RD, maybe Kemell and Fabbro fit in a return.
NSH
4.
VAN
  1. Räty, Aatu
  2. Romanov, Alexander
  3. 2023 1st round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Not a lot of real options here that fit the Canucks needs.

oh my god. Islanders just traded 12OVR for Romanov. You think Horvat is worth 12OVR, another 1st and a former #1 OVR prospect who just put up a ppg in LIIGA as a 19 year old?

Please understand that you will be getting nothing remotely close to this for Horvat. These are waaaaayyyy off

Asking way too much from the Preds, for a player who doesn't make sense for them.

You are asking way too much from every team. You would be lucky to get a late first and one piece from each team

No way Canes move Morrow for Horvat, extension or not. The second you mention Morrow, the Canes hang up

Isles already have a high-end 2C in Brock Nelson so it wouldn't make a ton of sense for them to spend this much on another - you're literally asking for their top prospect, a 22 year old LHD they just traded 13OA for 4 months ago, and a 2023 1st.

And while you're right that high-end 2Cs don't get traded that often, there's a pretty similar player traded the offseason before last who can play 2C in Sam Reinhart. Reinhart isn't as strong defensively as Horvat, especially on the dot, but his offensive production pre-trade literally matches Horvat's to date at 0.65 PPG. Florida had to give him a new contract before he hit the ice with them, so that's gonna hamper his value a bit, but it still only cost them a 2022 1st and Devon Levi's rights (Levi was a 7th round pick in 2020 whose 2020-21 season consisted solely of a 7 game run at World Juniors.)

I can concede that Horvat's value is higher than Reinhart's defensively, but Reinhart had RFA rights for all of 2021-22 and whoever gets Horvat will have him for 25ish games before needing to pay him or walk on. I can't see his value being worth as much as you're asking here, though. - if anything, maybe a team adds a 2nd rounder or a younger roster player/close to NHL-ready prospect, but these asks are bordering on the Eichel package.

i would argue that the islanders trade is worth more than what Eichel got. Tuch, Krebs, first and 2nd. Tuch was coming off of a 50 point pace season, Krebs did have a good DY+1 season in juniors but had a rough start going 0-0-0 in 9GP and then a projected late 1st and 2nd. Of course Tuch broke out and Vegas got hurt and didnt do well, but a first in the best draft since 2015, a PPG 19-year-old in LIIGA and someone who was just traded for a higher pick than where Krebs was taken is basically the same value.

This is absurd. Like I dont really want him but Id move like Holmstrom+first rounder+bailey for Horvat (with like a 5-6 year 6-7 mil AAV deal). Not Iskhanov, Raty, Dufour or Wahlstrom (some people have him going for horvat).

Drury and the 23 first with an extension or Drury, Heimosalmi and 2024 2nd with an extension. Either of those would be more palatable for the Canes. Morrow isn’t getting moved, whatsoever.

I understand Horvat is having a good season but he has the exact same career points per game as both of nashvilles top 6 centers Johansen and granlund. He's only an upgrade IF the start to this season is the new norm and i cant see Nashville spending that kind of futures on a big IF

DET waits till UFA and save a dreamy boatload. Teams rethink Horvat as a core piece at 7+m, kinda like our Buchnevich sweepstakes!! Lower your expectations imo

Not gonna happen with the Wings.

A. They have several FA to sign already and RFAs, so there is only so much money to go around
B. Yzerman was clear that he is not trading 1st round picks as of yet.
C. Horvat is not coming with an extension so that means he could leave and Wings have nothing as they are not close to competing for the cup yet.
D. Way to.much for a rebuilding club to trade right. Ow.

Horvat haș a limited trade market.....to true contenders that need a centre. Cross off the list of non playoff teams, or even teams that aren't likely to win more than one round.
And as a rule....extension talk doesn't work mid season.

I'd rather just sign Horvat as a UFA and keep the assets. If he's not available July 1st then so be it. I'll live.
