Description

Flames aren’t going anywhere with this team the way it is. We either deal away more prospects and picks to try and maybe compete or restock the cupboards ahead of the deepest draft in a long time.
Realistically not all these trades are perfect and may need a pick added one way or the other. But this idea is what I believe the Flames need to consider. I tried to consider what other teams needs might be based on their rosters etc. I also tried to think about which teams wanted to dump contracts (Drouin, Zaitsev, Etc). I also figured most teams have to give up a first to shed a really bad contract like Myers’. So a first and a second is a steal for that.

So when thinking about team needs, how does Detroit need a 31 yo who doesn't make them a playoff team, at the cost of a potential lottery pick?

There is a few players i'd agree MTL give their 2023 1st for. Huberdeau is not one of them.

Toronto is not giving up two firsts for what might not even be a lateral move, they might even be worse after that trade.
Maybe retained Toffoli might get a first from a team.
You have the first round pick going the wrong way in the Detroit trade.
Montreal is not trading a first for a $10M player who is under performing right now.
Lewis isn't even worth a 5th.
Not sure on value of that Tanev trade for Ottawa. He is getting up there in age but it would be an upgrade.
Maybe LA does that.
Don't know how you turn a seventh in 2025 into Kapanen and a first next year.

You have an identity crisis. Flames are chasing a cup by signing long term 30+ y.o. UFAs, and here you are trying to flip them for picks like a tanking team. Good luck with that.

Too much cap going to non Flame teams, and certainly teams would be that cap to sign players not giving away for rounders.

IF you're unhappy now....think of all the years you're going be unhappy now with these Kadri and Huberneau never ending contracts

You have not watched Zadorov if you think he sucks. He has been a top player for the flames. He is a ****ing monster not afraid to use his size, and he skates and moves the puck well.
