I 100% agree with the strategy, but you will need to lower your expectations on returns. Also isn't Samsonov a UFA now?

Yeah, can't see Buffalo doing that, especially with a few of the goalies that will be FA.

Byram and a first for a one year rental? Gee, let me think. Um, no.

No logic to the Devils trade. Does not address their needs at all. It's just moving salary for TOR.

Adam's has basically only ever committed loose change to the goalie position, plus we have 3 goalies under contract, that's gonna require moving things around, frankly we will be lucky if they even bother getting a vet in ufa, let alone moving higher value draft picks. Fortunately I'm not a big believer in moving or paying a ton for goalies, I do however believe in investing heavily in the skaters in front of the goalie (like fixing the gaping holes on in our defense), I don't think Adam's is gonna pay anything significant to fix that either. Which is bad.

Like your opening analysis and thought. But Leaf rentals aren't nearly that much. Gee during this years playoffs, Matthews was missing in action. Let's not blame the goalies or dmen it was lack of scoring from the forwards

I honestly don't hate the idea of trading for Marner, but not at this cost. Edvinsson is not going anywhere, he has sky-high potential as a minute eating top pair D, so you can forget about him.

I mean a veteran RD on a one year deal is a need if Nemec isn't ready, but the price and cap hit are stupid in this case

If we are making a move, might as well be for a RHD D in case someone above him gets hurt. Another LHD doesn't really make sense even if in a pinch he can play either side. The Devils shouldn't be spending that much, asset or cap, on a 3rd line defender in any case.
