Typically, not nearly as much as you are offering, but since it's Bedard, there are only going to be a few deals that might be considered. They would need to be receiving a franchise center that is just as marketable and one of the top players in the league.

McDavid and Matthews don't have enough years of control and the Hawks won't be receiving a ton on top. Draisaitl same thing but I don't think he's even marketable enough. MacKinnon is too old.

I think maybe if NJ offered Jack and Luke Hughes that would start a conversation. No team is going to pay the ask for Bedard though.

Lets look at it this way

Elias Lindholm + Sam Bennett + Kevin Fiala (picked 11th, Perlini was 12th) + Mitch Marner (picked 4th, Strome was 3rd) + Travis Dermott + 1st in 2016
For
McDavid

Fair, overpay, underpay? Which is it

I'd gladly take that if I had #1. Package is insane even considering Bedard.

It's nice to be high on your own picks and prospects. But, no, CHI shouldn't and wouldn't do that, and Jarmo wouldn't do that either if he had #1 overall.

This offer would be about as good an offer they could receive and really, it's not close. It can't be done.

The type of talent Bedard has isn't tradable anymore, the team trading him would get destroyed by it's fan base for it, the team acquiring would get the same for giving up so much high end assets for 1 player.

As a CBJ fan I couldn't do this trade, those pieces have been the result of years worth of suffering and they are/will be HIGH end talent players, those 6 players can't be replaced by 1 guy.

There are 3 things certain in life.

Death, taxes and Connor Bedard wearing a hawks jersey next season.

Has nothing to do with my opinion on my team's prospects. It's a 5th and 6th overall pick from the last 2 drafts, both who have looks absolutely fantastic since being drafted. Anyone who pays attention around the league would say so, that's not comomg from bias. Then you're adding pick 3, which lets you take a guy who would be 1st overall worthy in most regular draft years, ANOTHER 1st next year that'll probably be in the 8-15 range. Plus the 12th pick last draft and pick 34 this year.

Yeah, Bedard is a generational player, but he's 1 guy. Chicago has a near AHL level roster at the moment with few you'd expect to be long term contributors. A package like this gives you a good shot to get 3 very high level contributors, all with star potential, and 3 more chances at more quality players or depth on top of it. All of a sudden, you have the potential makings of a really good starting core. Chicago can easily bring in FAs and could probably have a very competitive team within 2 years.

I pay more attention to prospects around the league more than most people. CHI still declines, though.

Obviously Chicago declines. The optics around trading the Bedard pick make it impossible, regardless of which team ended up getting it. Everyone knows that. The point clearly wasn't about if Chicago WOULD make the trade though, it was about value like the title of the thread says.

You said "I'd gladly take that if I had #1.", which suggests that you think CHI "should" take it. You said nothing about "fair value" or "optics". It's not just about value, optics, or marketing, either, though. It's about what is best for the rebuild and long term success. Bedard is a piece you build around. Those pieces going to CHI in the proposed trade are just pieces. Very good pieces, but none of them are (or would be) a centerpiece.

Yes, "I'd" take that if I had 1, not "Chicago should take it", not "this is relaistic", nothing like that. The title of the thread is literally "What's the 1st overall pick worth" and I was responding to it. You're just putting words in by mouth.

Saying nothing in the package could be a centerpiece is actually insane though. Carlsson/Michkov are 100% absolutely a centerpiece player for a franchise to build around and Jiricek could even fall into that too as a top 3 D prospect in hockey.
