You can eliminate all the non playoff teams, who wouldn't pay what the Leafs want in a trade.
You can eliminate virtually all playoff teams, who would need to send cap back to the Leafs to make the trade. Since Nylander has shown he is excellent value at 7m X 1.....,why would the Leafs trade him?

In all seriousness though the problem with a Wing/Leaf trade is they are on polar opposite sides of the league right now. Detroit needs high end players but can’t sell the farm because they aren’t a “star” away.

For a deal to work it would need to be a 3 way deal in which Detroit can help cap situations and receive him while giving the third team futures. That team than gives Toronto the player(s) they would want.

Toronto realistically would only have interest in Perron, Kubalik?, maybe Copp? Not ideal, and nothing of which would interest the Leafs for Willy.

MN can't afford his $7m cap hit. They would have $2.1m and 4 roster spots (without a pressbox guy), and they have too many NTCs to try an work around to open up any cap.
