Wow that Jeannot deal's bad

I get what he did 2 years ago but the stats showed that man overachieved that year.

If Colton signs for 2.9m RIP Brisbois

I think it's fine. Below expectations of his market AAV but less term. Lightning couldn't afford to raise his AAV for more term in any case

Colton s/b $3.5ish but for 3-4 years I suspect

To me Tampa made a mistake with that Jeannot deal considering the season that man had. I would have went 1.5m x 1 year prove me deal as if he has 2 more seasons like he did last year that deal even if its only two years is gonna look bad fast. They be betting to much on a season where his numbers were way higher than they should have but alot of NSH players went through that.

I personally could see Colton sign 2.9 but yea hes probs gonna sign 3.6m x 3 years. Cause if u look at his totals hes slightly higher than Newhook.

Just about any 3rd line winger is getting $2 mil AAV so the "extra" $600k is nothing for his toolkit. I bet Tampa wanted him for longer term not less but they can't fit any more AAV to gain more UFA years from him.

Difference is many of those guys earned that. After that season Jeannot had if we went to open market he would be making 1mill rn

I’m a big fan of the entire jeannot transaction but I’m biased as that’s my favorite type of player. If there were more of them then they would cost less. wink

He basically does what most fourth liners should do. Forecheck, and throw the body. Trading basically an entire draft for him just seems dumb seeing as how those players can be bought in free agency

Like I get he had that incredible season in NSH 2 years ago but so many players overachieved that year and his stats were unsustainable. TBL better pray he at least somewhat rebounds otherwise RIP Brisbois

Sure, when they’re somewhere over 27 y/o and for whatever reason not retained by their current club, and typically switch to requiring term due to their historically shorter careers (David Backes). Maybe they’re 29 and want 4 years, and have about 5 teams bidding.

The good ones either stay forever (Tom Wilson, Jamie Benn, presuming Trent Frederic, if not I approve of stl sending the Jeannot payment to Boston for him right this moment), go to a preferred destination (Matt Tkachuk, Dubois to a degree), or are persistently desired by teams with contention window (Ryan Reaves, although he is more unique and not the archetype persay, Milan Lucic)

The act of acquiring a player who can dominate physically but also skate and score is rare.

Jeannot is clearly not Matt Tkachuk, but he’s also not the aav hit of him either.

I fully agree the cost is very high. I just like that type of player so I’m biased thinking it is justified. I totally see the other side of the argument.

The wide majority of teams do not have a most dominant physical player on the ice each night who is also good enough to be netfront on the power play. Pat Maroon has rings for a reason.

Seeing as how he has only played 2 seasons, we don't actually know which one is the outlier. For all we know, last year was the real him

Depends where you looked but even then it was a very small minority who thought it could actually happen. Those same few also assumed he grew up loathing the Hawks when in reality he was only 5 years old when the whole 'slay he dragon' thing went down. But yeah, to your point, most of it was tongue in cheek,

Not taking pushback from a fan of a team who’s owner ran an underground s** ring in THEIR OWN ARENA

That aside, I mean I haven’t been the biggest supporter of Writz even during the dynasty but it was revealed he had no idea it happened

https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/san-jose-sharks/news/report-martin-kaut-explains-his-move-to-czechia

Quote:
The report says that while Kaut was in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda, coaches would say to him, "Fight, and you will be in the NHL."

The report asked Kaut if he was forced to fight.

"One of the coaches chose an opponent for me before each match, and I was supposed to fight with him," Kaut said. "I remember how he once pointed to Adam Klapka."

Klapka currently plays for the Calgary Wranglers and is a fellow Czech. Klapka is listed at 6'8, 236 lbs on elite prospects. Kaut is 6'2 190 lbs, but fighting anyone 6'8 is at a disadvantage.

"They say that's why I don't play [in the] NHL," Kaut said about if he refused. "I've had three concussions and an injured shoulder twice. If I had fought with the ones he was picking on me, I would have been beaten and injured. He forced me into fights anyway, and it really bothered me. I would fight for a good reason. It gets heated when the match is sold out or when you're defending a teammate. But fighting someone just like that? I should be on the ice from the goals."

wow very interesting. We had high hopes for him on the Avs but he stalled out and never made an impact "one the ice for the goals" which is what we drafted him to do.

This is another reason I would like to see a "peer league" to the AHL based in Europe; so these guys can learn to play the pro game on NHL sized rinks under team control of their development but closer to home. We lose too many European guys between the ages of 19 and 23 because they have to adapt to a new version of the game, new languages/cultures, all while being halfway around the world from home.

Glad that Frost finally made that leap in his development; unfortunately for Philly it happened just before his extension so now they have to pay him as a true 2C.

I think he'll come in at $5 million AAV on a 5 year deal

I'm fine if they sign him long term at like 5m AAV . I've always been high on him, I feel he would've broken out sooner if he didn't miss so much time due to Injury and Covid.

Was a fan of picking him up to try to get Hayton going when all the injuries had piled up and he was looking increasingly buried in Philly. But we missed the boat. Thankfully Hayton looks like he can be the Steve Rucchin for Keller-Schmaltz duo even if he can't drive a line.

You know what team could be really interesting when it comes to Connor Hellebuyck

Chicago

And before you go huh look at that team next year Lots of spots, tonnes of cap, and will probs start to want to compete thanks to Bedard. Connor Hellebuyck helps kick start that off. As why not spend TBL's first be meh this year then start climbing next year as even if u add him and extend for 7mill still got slightly less than 50mill to spend
