I dont mind Orlov, I love that its 2 years, I hate that its 1-2M too expensive, I really really hate Carolina dead did not use the money for goalscoring.... Defense was never the problem.

this feels like a deal that carolina should have told another team to pay so they could trade for it with retainment. the AAV feels wild to me, but the term is good

When you already have Slavin and Skjei on that left side, one of them(likely Skjei) will probably be traded.
It's still too much money for my liking, but the term seems fair enough.

I wonder if this means Slavin is expected to miss a good chunk of the season. Otherwise they look ridiculously deep on the left side of the blue line. Can you imagine having an 18-goal scorer playing on your third pair? If they can trade Skjei for a goal-scoring forward, even if it's a guy in the last year of his contract (I was thinking Scheifele, but Winnipeg needs centers much more than they need defensemen), this will be a good move, otherwise it seems like they're wasting valuable cap space on something they don't need.
