Oliver Wahlstrom just signed for just over league minimum and has a better PPG.

Seem a bit high for a guy of his caliber. With Landeskog probably not playing again, if he has a role on 1st or 2nd line that could become a good deal, but I doubt it tbh.

500k-1M too much, but I think he will live up to that deal

I was hoping for about 200-300 less. He's either going to live up this number or fall woefully short. I'll hope for the first, but it's a risk, no doubt. Also we are now making a LARGE bet that him and Wood find chemistry fast.

That's a lot for Colton. On the brightside, Colton is an awesome player and will be very productive for the Avs. Love the player

This signing is an overpay, but comparing Wahlstrom to Colton is pointless. I like both guys, but Colton brings far more in his game than just points. As it stands today he’s a much more complete player than Wahlstrom.

Overpay, but not by much. Might be better to see how Colton does this upcoming season before judging if this was a fair deal or not.

I think this is a slight overpayment, and a bit too long.

Yeah, I agree with most people here. This is an overpayment, so I voted no. HOWEVER, it is not such a large overpayment that it will be big deal for the team. Furthermore, he wouldn't have to improve that much to live up to the contract.

Colton's linemates didn't do him any favors either... have to imagine he plays in Colorado's top 6 next year, a tad better than Pat Maroon and Nick Paul

Unlikely unless the Drouin or Johansen experiments fail miserably. At least not on a permanent basis. Injuries of course can alter things too.

Top lines are likely:
Drouin-MacKinnon-Nichushkin
Lehkonen-Johansen-Rantanen

Makes sense now why Tampa Bay traded him. They couldn't afford to pay him that much. Still sucks he's not a Bolt any longer, but wish him well in CO.

BUT if Drouin sucks Colton will be the insurance policy for that top 6 without a doubt. If RyJo doesn't have enough legs he could overtake that spot as well. Camp will be interesting.

Most people here seem to think he's only a little overpaid.

Really?

And these same people think Warren Foegele is a cap dump?

Good I hope for Colorado's sake he's not dumb enough to put Drouin in the top 6. Colton is the much better player.

Drouin will have more than a few games alongside Mackinnon, that was one of the main points in why he signed with the Avs. The real question is whether he has any games in the top six in 2024. If not then the Avs will most likely look to the trade route would be my guess, that or play it safe until Rantanen is signed long-term.

Colton is a really good player who along with Wood could make an excellent third line, Avs have learned in the past that they can't be a one or even two-line team.
