Detroit is interesting to me because:

Since 2019 Detroit has -six- defensemen taken within the first 50 picks of the draft. That’s a lot. Historically or currently that’s a very strong skew that is very uncommon. That’s more than one per draft. For reference, STL has taken 1, Arizona who has been draft hogs for awhile has 4. Detroit has taken more top 50 defensemen than my own team, or many other teams, have even had picks In the top 50.

Due to how they develop, the bulk of the impact from these defensemen shouldn’t really be felt until 2025-2030s. At that time tho Detroit could begin to pull away.

They’re kinda stuck being mid until then. They’re taking a less sexy route to getting gud. Taking nhl assets and turning them into drafted defensemen is a very slow rebuild. The only way to go slower is to wait to do this or have a global pandemic occur during. But good chance that once they become good it sticks.

Damn the last two days have been rough on the leafs

Bobby Baun, the guy who scored the cup clinching goal for the leafs in 64 just passed too

I was 7 years old when he scored that goal. Let’s just say I am no where near 7 now!

BREAKING:

Reports out of New York are indicating Chris Drury will be stepping down from his role as GM of the New York Rangers, announcement to come later this week. This news comes after reports of Drury being “frustrated” and “flabbergasted” after every single GM in the league has sent Drury the “I got one more in me”, Vince Carter meme when the rangers draft a bust in the first round for the past few years.

I lied.

It isn’t 6 defensemen drafted in the top 50 since 2019.

It’s 8.

I missed 2 more from 2023’s 2nd round.

Offseason is still boring as hell, so I'm curious to see if anyone out there has a favourite hockey related video they would like to share (mainly because I wanted to excuse to post this one). My favourite has got to be Sean Avery being Sean Avery. Never fails to put a smile on my face

It definitely is a classic, Patrik Stefan is going to be remembered due to this for decades

Every time I hear Ray Ferraro on ESPN, all I hear is “That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. Patrik Stefan, you should be embarrassed for what you just did. That does not belong in the National Hockey League.”

Reminder that ARI have a top 4 D that counts for approx 7.8m, the same cap hit than one D (Weber) on their LTIR

I'm not sure what Toews thinks he'll get by skipping this year and coming back next year

Anyone else surprised TBL didnt go get a proper backup goalie especially after Vasi's comments when they lost in the playoffs

Really would have thought they would bring someone in to ease his workload rather than someone who only will play 10 games

I mean Stalock be making 800k which is 25k more than Johanson he could have been a nice option as he can play 20+ games and put okay numbers weird how they didnt target him

Now they still have some options but they arent the greatest (i.e Halak) or go down the trade maze (Desmith ret or something idk)

Just seems weird after their starter said what he said they didnt try to address it.

It’s the offseason and nothing is happening so I’m going to use this thread to complain about how bad the Ticats are this season in the CFL.

Wings just might be a very good team very soon. Lots of prospects and cap space. Sabres and Wings are going to join the elite in the Atlantic soon. And even the Habs and Sens have hope.

I hadn't heard the name "Zachary Claman De Melo" in years since Dale Coyne Racing let him go. Didn't think this was how i'd hear about him again.

I'll let the story progress before forming an opinion on the matter. What started this?

No idea, happened like a week ago and we've heard nothing since, which is odd.

All I know is they were in a club.
