Devils decline but you can buy marino in a couple years for a combo of young forwards, picks and prospects

I like this quite a bit for MTL. I think a D would need to come back though maybe Jokiharju, if he isn't traded, instead of Leinonen or the 2nd

I think mtl would say yes.

Devils wouldn't do this though, and I think the Preds would want more

I really doubt they would. Not that the proposal is unreasonable, but management is really high on Matheson, want a veteran D who doesn't suck around for the rebuild, and I doubt Ostlund would be the type of prospect they'd target as a return.

The preds would want more? More than 9th overall from last year, plus a future first, plus a young right shot nhl d? Saros is under contract for this year and next. I can't imagine anybody offering more than that.

Ostlund is the only asset i want there

maybe instead of the goalie and 2nd, its a protected 1st and the habs add a mid round picks

So like Ostlund, 2026 1st (lottery protected) for Matheson, 3rd and 5th

Ostlund is nearly 0.5ppg in the shl this year and over ppg in the champions league. hed easily become our best forward prospect

I think that would be pretty silly, but I guess possible. Matheson's already gonna be 30 in 3 months

Honestly if you are ditching UPL then as a Nashville fan id take him in that return. Its pretty solid though not sure what Joki does for nashville but id take another young rhd and figure out what to do from there

I don't think points are the defining factor there, but Joshua Roy leads the AHL in points. I think you'd have a pretty hard time arguing Ostlund is a better prospect, let alone clearly.

Poltapov's counting stats in KHL certainly aren't anything to scoff at but Casey has been an absolute marvel since the Devils drafted him in 2022.
In hindsight Casey really should have gone in the 1st rd of that draft, and possible in the 1st half of the 1st rd even. Absolute steal by the Devils to get him as late as they did.

You make a point in that Casey likely wouldn't fit into the Devils RHD corps (as currently constructed) but that doesn't mean that Polatpov constitutes a good fit and appropriate value for the Devils when dealing Casey as they are well set on wingers for their prospect pool.
I think a Casey - Östlund swap would be much more equitable and fit both teams needs as the Devils could make good use of a higher end center prospect in that pool of theirs, they are running quite low in that department.

Like @herzausstein, I don't have much interest in seeing Jokiharju with NSH either. The Preds are getting decent value here, yet I don't really want any of the pieces BUF is sending them. What about BUF's 2024 1st, Kulich, and Ratzlaff?

Not remotely close to the point. And why does 5 games in the AHL vs 11 games in the SHL.

If BUF lands Saaros and Devi becomes available, he'd definitely be the player I'd target in a Matheson trade.

I'm looking at Lindgren, Strbak, McCarthy, R. Johnson. Any one if them really. Strbak and Lindgren probably force the 2nd into a 4th though.

Im personally a huge fan of Savoie and dont see them parting with Kulich unless we are talking a 1 for 1 or maybe Kulich + UPL

Even with his hot start in the A, I didn't realize Kulich was that far ahead of Savoie, in the eyes of BUF fans.

I'm less enamoured with Savoie, because I don't see him as a center in the NHL, at his size.

Recency bias is going to play alot into Kulich's acquisition. 5G 3A in 5 games in the AHL at age 19.
