Now that’s an LMAO. There is zero chance that Swayman is worth anything near that

This would be like Boston trading Patrice Bergeron in 2010 for Semyon Varlamov

NJ not doing that or anything like it.

Boston is not signing a right shot D to play first pair LD.

I don't think Edmonton would do that either. They really like Holloway, he brings a lot of useful elements.

Even if you added Poitras and the 2025 #1, I don’t believe that NJ considers it,

That said, I think it’ will elicits a similar feeling when Jersey fans talk about trading peanuts for Swayman,

You have to look at goalie ufa market to gauge the replacement or upgrade value of a goalie, possibly look something similar at the hishier replacement value. The margin between the 4/5 year older ufa that wants similiar money and term to hishier makes him rather more valuable than the difference between swayman and top ufa goalie, ufa goalie possibly a bandaid approach, but keeps your captain in the fold. Nj sinks or swims with Hughes and hishier.

The gap is much narrower between Swayman/Hirschier and those two, but I get what you are trying to say conceptually

The hardest part of reading these is the level of trying to over complicate the obvious trade. Ullmark to the Devils makes a ton of sense, but between Devils fans getting greedy trying to get Swayman and now this.

For the record, I did post a sarcastic deal involving these two previously. See them being on the same realm of not happening no matter how many times people try to mansplain why goalies are worth less when their goalies suck

Not too downplay swaymans or any 1a/1b goalies abilities, it’s flat out a different era, where multiple teams currently in the playoffs would rather basically take a random one out of the scrap heap over investing any picks or cap into a number 1 goalie. With Vegas winning the cup and driving there 1b Brousoit to the airport in free agency, and just keep rolling, the value of tenders remains rather mid, eastern team probably could have had helly last summer before the extension, but rather luke warm interest, had him reupping for as much as he could get from Winnipeg, right wrong or otherwise. The market just isn’t there for an established captain to be moved for a tender. If I’m Boston and have to move him, possibly hope somebody bites for a mid first or something.

Zero chance this happens. It's Hughes or the Bruins are keeping Swayman.

Yeah devils aren't sacrificing a premium player at the most premium position for the most fickle one. There is a very real chance Swayman falls off a cliff randomly at anytime it's just how goalies work now

Las Vegas also took Marschessaukt off the scrap heap. Does that impact forward values or is it just good scouting: development?

Boston almost won the Atlantic with Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha playing well above what was expected and outplaying a lot of the players Boston supposedly had to acquire to be competitive.. Does that impact center values or is it just good scouting/develooment?

Its why I find it ironic that people point to goaltending by itself and feel like it’s not something that’s done an other positions? Hell, that Vegas team has a ton of players taken off the scrap heap.

People keep on saying it is a different era, but great goalies are generally only traded when cap situations exist and that impacts values regardless of position. They also can take inferior teams and push them past better teams in the playoffs (does anyone think Boston has more overall talent than Toronto sans their goaltending situation?)

A hot goaltender was just as important in Florida’s run last year as some of the forwards who got accolades.

I had this argument with a lot of Jersey fans during the offseason. There will be the one team that gets lucky with the scrap heap approach. More teams that try this approach and fail miserably / regret it.

I took very little solace in seeing the Jersey team go from Stanley Cup contender to top 10 pick driven mostly by poor goaltending and health. They took that risk and it failed miserably. Talent wise, they have no business in the top 10 even with the injuries.

I think there are teams in the playoffs right now whose fans are white knuckling their goalie situation.

I’m basically 50-50 on trading Ullmark as a Boston fan. I believe the framework is successful and late first rounders don’t do much for me. We have cap room to keep him next year even if we lose him the following year. There is also value cap wise in having a 5m expiring for our 2025-2026 books.

If a team trades value for Ullmark, great. I do like what I’ve seen from Bussi at Providence the past two years and am impressed with Reid Dyck’s talent. I also think Mike Dunham and Bob Essensa have taken DiPietro and improved his fundamentals to the point where he is a decent prospect again. I do believe there is an NHL goaltender (maybe two) among those three
