There is no world in which Schmidt does not cost an asset attached to him to move much less getting anything in return. 3rd pairing D that have seen a steady decline in their play fast approaching 33 making almost 5 with a cap hit of almost 6 cost like a 2nd to move if you can convince a team they are not completely burnt toast.

Chicago 24-25
Another 1st or Holloway short of getting into an actual conversation about what other minor pieces need to balance out the Hawks taking Campbell.
Kuzmenko trade don't make much sense for either party. Nucks are chasing a presidents trophy and are likely that caliber of a team again next year. They are not trading a present for a bunch of middling (at best) futures. Collectively, all those pieces are probably worth Kuzmenko, but a rebuilding team shouldn't give up all that nor should a win now team be taking all that as opposed to quality current NHL player.

If we arent rushing the rebuild why cant we keep taking on bad contracts
I would tweak both trades a bit. I would not include the Ott 3rd....Campbell contract is really bad like sniffing 2 1st on it's own bad and odds w/ McDavid is neither are going to be all that early and Mrazek has had a really good season and has some sort of value too. I would maybe throw in the NYR 4th in '25 and would consider making the '25 1st the '26
Toronto deal needs to be expanded to include a RHD going back to Chicago....think both teams would want that to some extent. Liljegren, Timmins, or Niemela would be the most interesting and the Hawks could probably send a young LHD back (as not all of Phillips/DelMastro/Allen/Kaiser will have a path to the NHL (especially with Vlassic looking solid this year in the NHL and Korchinski likely to grab another LHD NHL roster spot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Just to clarify, this team is for next season, not this one, so the Hawks current injury issues don't play into it. In a deal for Murphy, even without retention, Krebs and Clifton are throw ins at best value wise to the Hawks. Krebs by your own description is a "flyer" guy. Clifton is a downgrade to Murphy no matter how you want to look at it. Is that really a smart move? Neither guy is more than a short term, fill in piece. A Murphy trade has to be for futures that push the rebuild forward, or you don't make the trade. That 2nd and one of Buffalo's good young F prospects? That makes way more sense. Multiple picks? That makes more sense. This offer is selling really low on Murphy IMO.</div></div>
I'll confess I am not a big believer of Murphy as a future piece (at all) and while he may be a decent bridge piece to try to transition some of the young D the next couple of seasons, I don't even view him as that great of a piece there. I would view Krebs as more of a potential piece going forward then guys like Katchouk, TRad, Reese Johnson, Entwistle, Guttman, and Joey Anderson who likely have roster spots next year (until proven otherwise). If you are counting on Hall or Athanasiou being healthy for a full season, you'll be disappointed based on recent history. Whatever recent prospects/picks turn pro....I would much rather they percolate in Rockford then having spots in Chicago by default. Call me crazy, but I would not mind taking a run at Pesce or Montour if they get to UFA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Just curious what you think would appeal to KD in that package for Murphy? The 3rd pair RD, the bottom 6 F or the pick?</div></div>
With no retention, I think this is a pretty solid package....more quantity than quality....but fair. The pick is #38OA currently. Krebs is closing in on 23 so it is fair to suspect he is what he is at this point. I would not mind taking a flier on him and feeding him some middle 6 minutes to see if maybe he could be more though (he is an actuall NHL player which late 1st/2nds just as likely are not as good as what he is and certainly upgrades the bottom of this putrid roster of forwards which was not good even before the injury bug). At the least, the Hawks are rolling out some serious garbage at forward and he would add some depth and talent. Clifton give you a vet guy 2 years younger, way more playoff experience, 1.1 million per cheaper, and probably plenty good enough to pair with our LHD kids.
At some point retaining on Murphy, what would you think the best case return might be? Late first and a 2nd similar to McCabe where you had to include Lafferty (which is not much, but still something). Late 1st + late 2nd < an early 2nd & Krebs for me. That also give you a chip that is you truely want a late first you have 4 2nds to package up.

Building from hawks proposal
Hawks are not doing that....they can likely get those type of picks straight up for those 2 without having to swallow another full year of a pretty bad goalie contract. At the very least, the Hawks can retain for a 1/4er of the remaining season at the deadline and get those picks. For the the framework of this deal to work, there will need to be a first on the table. Hawks already have TWELVE 2nd and 3rd round picks over the next 3 drafts so adding a couple more (and late one's at that) are not going to peak anyone's interest in Chicago.

Can they go for it next year this fast
I really like Pettersson as a player, but no where near enough to give up 4 1st round picks the first couple of which might still be pretty good. All adding Hanifin does is stunts the growth of the mass of LHD options/prospects the Hawks have. I want Korchinski getting massive PP time so he hopefully can fulfil his promise. At the least keep the runway free of obstacles and take your lumps sifting through those prospects (because until we develop 2 or 3 really good D internally (Keiths/Seabs/Hjammer), we are going to be rebuilding any ways). I would be open to throwing 8-9 million per to Sam Reinhart as a UFA as a splash signing maybe a year sooner then they should in the rebuild. I think he would compliment what we have in the forward prospect poll better than Pettersson.

Then keep Steeves for yourselves and send a 3rd round pick. The Hawks have collected a number of sub 6' forwards in the last few drafts and they are likely looking for some different shapes/sizes as oposed to another 5'11 wing prospect that will be a UFA by the time the Hawks are ready to compete.

Squeak to tweak Plan a parade
You need a much better prospect or another painful piece of draft capital to have the Hawks biting on 3.25 years of (mediocre) AHL goalie owed 15 million more dollars. Like in the range of Holoway or another first with maybe talking the Hawks into sending a late 2nd or 3rd to offset that second bigger piece. I also think the Hawks would want to include Mrazek if in fact they took a Campbell dump on (where I think they would give him a chance at least for next season to be a reclamation porject).
Counteroffer Campbell, '24 1st, & '26 1st for Mrazek (50% retained), Zaitsev, and '26 4th

If Beauvillier "is the definition of a playoff player", why would the Hawks give him to the Leafs for an undrafted AHL'er? I would think a playoff performer should net a 3rd or 4th at the TDL and the Hawks ability to retain to enhance the return makes this offer even more unrealistic.

Not even close on Dickinson. He'll easily bring a 3rd (not a failed 3rd) and I suspect the Hawks will get creative with retaining &/or adding a lesser pick/prospect to get into a 2nd.

I would want a 3rd or 4th added to that 2nd for Dickinson because that pick will be late 50's sniffing 60.
My counteroffer would be Dickinson (50% retained) with the worst 2nd the Hawks end up with and the Sens 3rd for the Avs 1st. That is a net cost of a pick in the mid 40's for Dickinson retained. Hawks have a lot of picks and would benefit from consolidating quantity into quality while the Avs have no 2nd or 3rd.

I want more than a 3rd and 4th for the final 2 retention spots. With Dickinson and Tyler Johnson also pending UFA's, I think there is a 2nd (we are generally talking late 2nds as it will be playoff teams buying) to be had somewhere with retention.

Colorado counter offer is Dickinson (1/2 retained) + worst 2nd round pick the Hawks hold for Colorado 1st and RyJo. Behrens is just a terrible fit given what the Hawks have in LHD prospects. Vlassic looks very promising this year at the NHL level and Korchinski's pedigree has you thinking 2/3rd of your LHD are set for a decade with 4 or 5 other fairly high end prospects battling out for the 3rd spot and a couple working off hand just so they have a slot to play into at the NHL level.

Big Game Huntin
I agree with Garak on Dickinson value being in the 3rd....2nd with retention range. The proposal here probably adds up to that 2nd value in a quantity approach, I just don't think the Hawks will have any interest in quantity over quality with the quantity of picks they have made in the last 2 drafts and have stacked up in the next 3....at some point you don't have enough roster spots on your pro rosters to place all those picks.
I think you would be way more likely to get the Hawks to bite on a package where they are sending the quantity to upgrade one of the many picks they have....so maybe like Dickinson WITH one of the 3 2nd's the Hawks hold for the Avs 1st. My counteroffer would be Dickinson (half retained) plus the worst 2nd the Hawks end up holding and the Sens 3rd for the Avs 1st. Using the SoundOfHockey pick value chart with where these picks currently sit, that would be a net of getting Dickinson for a mid 40's pick which I think is fair for him retained. Hawks get to upgrade multiple picks and a trade chip into a better pick which I think they really need to do while the Avs add a TDL piece and downgrade a 1st into 2nd and 3rd they currently do not have.

Pushes Chips In for 24-25

Maybe bring in 1 big name next summer but if that's the case of all the big names you have here, I would go after Sam Reinhardt for $10M (give or take). He's an awesome 2 way right winger to play with Bedard long term and also a position where our prospect pool is weak at. Outside of that, the Hawks stay the course</div></div>
This....we are at the very least another if not two seasons away from time to go all in. All this AGM would accomplish is having the Hawks a fringe playoff team (the D and goaltending are still not THAT good) that at best maybe sneaks in and gets bounced in round 1 of the playoffs leaving us with a pick in the 20's instead of in the teens which is usually enough of a difference between a top half of a roster player verses a bottom half (and we still need a few more potential top half of a roster guys). Take our lumps going through the growing pains of the kids auditioning for spots and grab a pick in the 5-15 range again and have enough of the kids sort through their growing pains that you start to have a core of a handful of young players to build around first, before you try to plug holes.
I do love the idea of Reinhart. I do realize the cap is going up and that the Hawks are probably going to have to overpay to get someone that will have options to come, but I would hope a long term deal for Reinhart would come in closer to the 8-9 range than 10.

I'm not even sure I touch this from the Hawks if you swapped Broberg for Holloway as I too am becoming more and more sceptical of what Holloway is. At an absolute minimum, the first would need to be in '24 and not 3 drafts out to take 3.25 years of Campbell.
My counteroffer would be Dickinson for Campbell, '24 1st, Holloway, '26 3rd

Tdl idea
Broberg is the wrong piece for the Hawks who have had decent returns with LHD prospects Korchinski & Vlassic. If you squint while watching them, you can sort of see a top pairing and middle pairing guy for the next decade with some further development. The Hawks have also had Kaiser and Phillips taking NHL shifts with mixed results as LHD prospects and have Allen and Del Mastro in the AHL as additional LHD options. The absolute last thing the Hawks are looking for is more options at LHD until they sort through some of their own promising choices. Flip Broberg to Halloway and you probably start an actual discussion.

No thanks on either trade. Goodrow is on pace for 10 points this season and is owed 3.6 for 3 more seasons. Upgrading a low 4th to a low 2nd is not in the right zip code for the Hawks to take that contract. That is 11.25 actual dollars in salary for a guy whoses production can be replicated with an AHL level plug.
While I like Frost as a buy low reclamation project/gamble, I would not do that for either Kaiser or a 2nd much less both. 5'11 170 forwards are not something the Hawks should be spending good resources on given their current prospect pool mix (which is generally smallish with Bedard, Nazar, Moore and even Reichel).

Pretty sure the Hawks are not trading a pick in the teens to low 20's (the scenerio where the Lightning would wave the white flag on the season) without getting a sweetner to do it for a pick a draft year later. Hawks are trying add building blocks to a rebuild and pushing those back a year on the development curve is not happening for free.
