McD feels like hes been nursing something for a while i wonder how effective he is when he gets back.
as to your bruins fan comment. idk man i just dont see how A) they win in 2020 based on the skid of games they had been having, stamkos was out for year, they looked absolutely lost, hedman had just gotten hurt, i think there was one more pretty major injury in there as well. B) if last year is 82 games and not 56 your roster wouldnt have been nearly as deep because you would have had to clear the extra 9m from kucherov mid season or earlier. like i said no need to dwell. you arent changing my mind. bruins had a legit shot in 2020 and covid messed that up is what it is. dont think it matters for 2021 playoffs because we had too many injuries during the isles series with rask and carlo getting banged up. im increasingly worried about carlo, pastrnak, and lindholm not being ready to go by playoffs... we are gunna end up pulling carolina and thats gg. they are gunna smoke us.
I get I'm not going to change your mind (has a Bruins fan's mind ever been changed?
), I just enjoy the debate.
A) There's no way to know about 2020, agreed. I might even agree that they don't win if not for the shortened season. But still-the fact that they were so dominant in those playoffs, so complete, all without Stamkos (save for 2:36 and a goal for the ages) makes it one of the most remarkable playoff runs in recent memory IMO.
B) I hate the Kucherov knock, not because it's not true that they were over the cap (of course they were), but because, to quote Tenet (freaking Nolan masterpiece-sorry, going off-topic again), "what's happened's happened." The rules are the rules-maybe one day they'll change (and maybe they should!). But Kuch was actually injured, and the rules say the cap doesn't apply come playoff time.
Dougie Hamilton whined about it after they knocked out the Canes in Round 2, which I laughed at-don't make excuses. If one wants the league to change the rules, I'm fine. But I've seen people saying "the Lightning cheated"-that's just stupid, it's part of the game, the Blackhawks did something similar with Kane in 2015. If a player is injured, the rules allow one to fill up the space. What team wouldn't take advantage of that? (Apparently they might change that in the next CBA, and say that the cap will apply in the playoffs is well, which I think is perfectly understandable.)
But more to the point, even if it was a full season, I really do think that they were winning the Cup in 2021. Stamkos was also hurt down the stretch, which would've allowed them to bring back Kuch then without sacrificing anybody big (they probably don't trade for Savard, but he was a luxury, not a necessity like Coleman/Goodrow were).
There's no way to know for sure. But even the most avid Panthers fan would grudgingly agree that they earned those two Cups. They went through an awful lot.
In short, there's no "What if?" in hockey. Tampa Bay Lightning, back-to-back Stanley Cup Champs, and faced a ton of adversity in the process. They earned it.
