I think Dumba got blacklisted from Detroit after he went MMA on Lucas Raymond, bashing his head into the ice mid-season... So Detroits going to pass.

I would not do Fiala straight up for the 2OA, not adding on top of that.

Yeah, it was more unloading him from a MN standpoint, 6th / 7th R, whatever doesn't matter. I just read Van was looking for vet D men.

Maybe you talk NJ into moving 2nd overall or Mercer for fiala but both is just too much. If dumba would resign with Detroit at a decent I'd do a deal for him.

That is fine. Russo is saying the Fiala price tag is going to be high and a bidding war. So the trade compensation was based on that.

probably more of a 27yo vet ad opposed to 32 when season starts

Russo is saying Billy G would allow Fiala's agent to speak with teams before any trade. Thus upping Fiala's trade value in his opinion, creating a bidding war. Russo speculated today a high 1st and a prospect, that is what I based it off of.

That's fair. really, for this exercise, Van could be swapped out with any other team here. Just wanted to clear a little cap space. maybe we send a 7th back for Kul and a 6th. something like that.

haha I don't know if that sort of thing actually plays, I mean it's possible. I just read an article saying DET would be interested in Dumba if he became available via trade. Comp was done based on what COL gave up for D Toews.

Dumba and Kulikov are the right values but wrong teams to send them to.

Talbot probably worth a 3rd.

Fiala is a heavy overpay. I can’t see NJ getting close to that. Neither piece will be traded

If the Wild are openly calling for a bidding war, it’s gonna backfire. It’s exactly how Colorado backed out of Taylor Hall deal (and likely contributed to Shero losing his job….Shero now works for Wild)

In the end, because Fiala is without a contract, they may only be able to trade him to a team where he is willing to sign an extension. Otherwise, he signs QO and goes to UFA next summer.

Buchnevich and Reinhart trade packages should be the starting points, maybe a little higher.

Fiala’s agent can already talk to any NHL in July and doesn’t need permission.

Dumba and Kulikov are the right values but wrong teams to send them to. - I've read DET management really likes Dumba, Kul for sure could be, that was more of a dumb for lineup purposes.

Talbot probably worth a 3rd. - I'd be fine with that, wasn't really sure on goalie offseason values.

I don't know, what you are saying is possible, but Russo from the Athletic is saying the Fiala price tag is going to be big. That "many teams interested and will get into a bidding war". I guess we will have to see how it shakes out.

Russo usually knows what he's talking about. His words not mine. He also said Fiala will be dealt at the Draft, which is July 7th and 8th. NHL FA doesn't start until July 13th.

I heard that on his latest Q&A, but the Devils certainly are not trading the 2nd overall pick and Mercer for him. I could have seen them moving the 5th/6th overall pick, but now that it's the 2nd they will just take Cooley or Slafkovsky who project to be top line players, will be younger, and will have those sweet ELC's. I don't see them moving Mercer either. He had a stellar season as a 20 year old and he still has 2 years left on his ELC. I'd love to get him but I just don't see why the Devils would trade him, as good as Fiala is.

Looks like you added your statement to the quote. Do you have a source that the Detroit FO is interested in acquiring Dumba?

I don't think the Wild are calling for a bidding war, this was Michael Russo's words. He works for the Athletic, not the Wild. He's fairly well connected around the league, so I presume that's what he's hearing from his sources around the league. As said before, Fiala won't be a rental, Billy G will give his agent permission to talk long term contracts / willingness with potential trade partners.

As I said before, there’s not many that can afford Fiala and also make sense to trade those assets for him.

I only see 5 teams:

Ottawa, Anaheim, NJ, LA and Isles.

Out of those , Isles would have to move someone out and not sure Fiala is a Lou type of player.

NJ probably will walk away as soon as the 2022 1st, Mercer or Holtz get mentioned. I think they’ll just opt to stay Pat and sign someone in free agency.

LA probably can’t afford that contract unless they move out a core player which doesn’t make sense. And Minny can’t afford to take much cap back. So I don’t see it working.

That leaves Anaheim and Ottawa.
I think it’ll probably be 7th or 10th overall going back and maybe a small piece . Obviously the 10th overall would require an additional piece a bit bigger than the 7th

No I think a 1st and a prospect is a good valuation. I like fiala a ton I think Detroit should be chasing him but adding Mercer to 2oa is just too much I think.
