Good trade for both teams
Nashville had a ton of cap space to work with and can still resign Forsberg (this move might even convince Forsberg that Nashville is still contending)
Tampa clears over 7M in cap space for this offseason and for the future. They can now resign Palat

Nah Forsberg is an islanders

I don't understand how the Islanders can financially make that work, especially if the rumour of $9M/8y is anywhere near true for his price to stay in Nashville.

The Islanders aren't any better than the Predators, he's established a home in Nashville, and there's a $1M difference in state taxes between Nashville and Long Island. A cash-comparable offer from the Islanders would have to see the AAV come in just under $12M for Forsberg to walk away with the same amount of cash-dollars. Simply doesn't make sense.

If Sorokin hasn't quite figured English out and the Islanders are dead-set on flipping Varlamov, then Nichushkin makes a lot more sense and should easily come in at a realistic cap hit.

I’d take Nichuskin at 6.5 x 6 over Forsberg at 9.5 x 7. It’s not even close.

Nashville signing Forsberg is going to set them up to be mediocre for a long time. They don’t even have a true 1C, arguably 2C as well

Not sure I understand the game plan in WPG right now. It's not as if Bowness worked wonders in Dallas.

So many guys on the Preds either had career years or exceeded expectations based on performance over recent years. I know scoring was up as whole this year, but jeez. Doesn't seem like they're looking at their situation objectively.

Regression to the mean will hit hard next season. I predict Forsberg and Duchene won’t hit 30 goals.

Might be a hot take, but I don't expect Josi to have one of the best offensive production seasons of all time again next year.

Granlund went from half a point a game the last two seasons to 65 points, Johansen did similar. Tanner Jeannot shot 20% as a rookie...

And they just squeaked in.

I think we’d have another Dadonov situation with McDonagh where the player does have value but won’t get much of a return due to a cap crunch even if he’s a serviceable 2nd pair guy

It’s a fair deal, Tampa clears cap to sign other guys and gets a depth D with potential (albeit he hasn’t shown it and is payed 2.5 ) and a guy with a cool name. Nashville gets a top 4 D for pennies

Does this trade set the table for Petry:

Ryan McDonagh: 33 yo, 4 more years at $6.75M/yr
Jeff Petry: 34 yo, 3 more years at $6.25M/yr

Saw the McDonagh trade and went k now we know a guy like Muzzin can be moved

That said I dont think we see it happen as Muzzin is a key part to Toronto's blue line and with Lybushkin probs on his way out hes gonna be needed more than ever now

I would say no because unlike Tampa, we’re not forced to move out a contract, we can absolutely hold on to Petry, Tampa had to move someone ( whether McDonagh, Killorn, etc )

Totally entitled to your own opinion, but the Leafs keeping Muzzin is a bad idea. Multiple concussions, knee injuries, if you could guarantee that could play 82 games plus a playoff run then great, but we can’t. There is toooooo many miles, Leaf’s need to get out of this contract if they hope to improve this team.

My two cents

JFresh believes P.Myers will be bought out, is that likely?

They actually gain 600k in cap space by doing so and only receive a 600k dead cap next season (so temporary gain and negligible dead cap).

Edit: CJohnston now confirms Tampa will elect to keep Myers.. mmm.. honestly I’d buy him out after seeing the benefit.

the only question is does muzzin waive. he's a home town boy on a team that's trending upwards. slightly different scenario for mcdonagh.

Muzzin got hurt mainly because he was overworked. He got all the tough assignments and was worked to death. Also coming back to early didnt help

With Giordano added that changed. Muzzin playing less minutes and being with Brodie was significantly better and showed hes still got it especially in that tough playoff series. Sandin is not ready to play 20minutes a night or ready to be a shutdown Dman and Giordano at this point is better in a third pairing role. So keeping him and letting Sandin learn the right side is the right thing to do rn.

Next season I see the following

Rielly-Liligren
Muzzin-Brodie
Giordano-Sandin
