This is the guy I've been yelling about for a good few months now that Devils should seriously look into bringing in.
I think he's heavily underrated, could be acquired for a very reasonable price and provides stability in net for a team that's been desperately seeking it ever since the decline of Schneider.
There's nothing I don't love about this for the Devils.
Great trade.
They can keep the two and run them as a tandem in all honesty. I don't think they're obligated to move Blackwood - I thought they would - but I don't hate this sort of tandem with their blueline.
He should play in tandem with Vanecek. I expect roughly a 50/50 split in starts between the two.
It makes a lot of sense as I think it's more likely than not that Bernier's done playing pro hockey.
What a weird succession of moves from Washington for Vanecek. Let Seattle grab him, then pay a 2nd to get him back, then trade him away a year after to move up 7 spots in the 2nd and a third. Like, what's this for asset management? NJ gets the nod.
Quoting: NARC311
Another huge win for Washington
Are you drunk? You guys paid a second to get him back, he then posted similar very good numbers and you can't fetch anything more than a 3rd and 9 spots in the 2nd?

The difference between picks 37 and 46 + the value of pick 70 is roughly equivalent to a mid 2nd rounder. They got back what they paid for him
How so? COL gave up less than this for Georgiev and I think him and Vanecek are pretty similar
In your opinion. Vanecek has been proved to be better than Georgiev. If both keeping playing at the same level of last season, Colorado will regret about this trade. Ok, Georgiev played very well in playoffs. But it was just 2 games. In regular season he was BAD. But, we'll see. Maybe Colorado improves his game. They're good development team is still 26. For a goalie, he's still a bit young.

Both goalies are pretty much the same age and both have underperformed the last 2 seasons. The difference is that Georgiev put up decent numbers in the years before that while Vanecek wasnt in the league. Avs are hoping Georgiev bounces back to what he was before and paid less than NJD did here. I dont see how NJD paying more for Vanecek makes the COL deal worse
