For Yakupov I believe his issues were that he only cared about developing his shooting and was very temperamental. Oilers did have a revolving door of coaches during that time but it's very hard to try and teach someone who doesn't want to be taught.


Fair point, but Oilers were notorious for being awful at developing and even now they aren't developing. Kind of like Montreal of previous, only way you don't bust is if you're actually good enough to play in the NHL and have good enough skills that you can carry yourself.

Development is not an issue for the Oilers right now. If you want to look at a team that can't turn draft picks into anything useful, feast your eyes on the Avalanche.

Kinda, but he's also been producing at half a point per game over the past two seasons. Half-retained, I could see some teams having interest

We shouldn't retain. Keep him for another year and we can trade him next year when we're a bubble team. Assets should be better than.
