Pens Reddit page is full of fans apparently having aneurisms saying that a trade for Miller would’ve been better than this.

But ...Boeser?!?! Since when center is an issue Pittsburgh ? I like the player, but that wasn't the move to make.

I voted Nashville because they managed to unload his contract.

Miller is much better offensively and defensively.

Look at those numbers. You don't spend $5 million a year for those numbers. You don't give up a 2nd round pick for those numbers.

You usually have to give up assets to get rid of those numbers.

And they got back an asset. This is a bad trade for a bad contract.

It would have been. Granlund is 4% WAR and costs $5 million. He's signed for two more years and is two years older.

IMO, Poile loses. He's a decent middle-six player, who is not the best defensively. I would have expected B-tier prospect+2nd+3rd AT LEAST.

I can't believe so many people are not voting Nashville. This is a CAP DUMP where they get an asset back. It's a multi-year cap dump, where they get an asset back.

How are people not calling this a win for them?

Granlund is not a bad acquisition for the Penguins. He has been a setup forward who sets up plays and feeds the puck to wingers to score. The number of assists has been consistent over several seasons.

Granlund assisting and producing secondary scoring would be welcomed for Pittsburgh.

The Predators were not the right team for Granlund to succeed.

So what is ultimately Nashvilles gameplan? Are they trying to "retool" like WSH? That's the vibe I'm getting but I also wouldn't be surprised if I woke up and they are in full fire sale

This has been a terrible trade deadline for the Pens so far because we could have beaten any of the deals that were made for players that would have actually helped us. All the returns have been underwhelming for each guy we could have gotten. I'd imagine there is another deal in the mix. But straight up, we could have gotten Horvat, Tarasenko, O'Reilly, Chychrun, Schenn, Korpi/Gavrikov, and realistically, we could have put a package together that beat NJ's for Meier too.

We need defense, goaltending insurance, and depth scoring.... I guess Granlund is depth scoring but he is more of playmaker.. We could absolutely use a physical presence on the back end too. I know Myers technically sucks but if Van can retain salary I'd take him and Boeser. Come on Hexy do something that's good... not just to do something! We don't need a playmaking 3c signed for 2 more seasons at 5! We need help in the back!

Poile is cleaning house. Trotz will have to build from scratch.

Win for Nashville getting out of that contract. Not sure a play making center who is awful defensively moves the needle.

Absolutely ridiculous trade by the Pittsburgh Penguins. An absolute waste of money on a guy that can’t Back check and whose metrics are absolutely horrendous. Andy cost $5 million and we got no salary retain which is just absolutely mind-boggling for a second round pick.
