Sucks that our goalie coach is gone too, but the bad man is gone

Now let's see if we can lock down a Claude Julien-type as our coach.

May I suggest to you an old portly gentleman looking to find the first plane ticket out of Washington? He'd deeeeeefffffinitely do well there developing your young players...

lmao no

Lavi is on my short list of "PLEASE DON'T HIRE", alongside Paul Maurice and Barry Melrose.

Going back to serious options for a second, maybe the Jackets take a chance on Scott Allen? Did well in Hershey and has consistently been in charge of some of the leagues best penalty kill numbers across his time in as an assistant in Arizona and Washington, he might be worth the risk for Columbus. Would hate to see him go but could be worthwhile for CBJ.

I was right about to suggest Scott Arniel since he was a decent assistant coach in Washington, but then I looked at his staff page and realized I had completely forgotten he was the head coach of the Jackets already.

If i were Jarmo i'd look into that.

(and probably look into the medical staff too, there is no reason that we should have been this injured this year)

Don't think this was the outcome Flames fans wanted.

Yeah, I would've kept Treleving and fired Sutter, Sutter just isn't a long term coach options, he works best for a couple years, keep him too long and you'll get burned, like most coaches of his ilk

Knew it was gonna happen as why should Tree stay when ownership wont let him hire the guy he wants. Sutter is the owners guy. I feel Hextall or Burke gonna end up a flame GM as both guys fit the Sutter description

I propose a third, much dumber alternative to you: Elimination tournament between all 16 non-playoff teams. single elimination bracket to determine draft selection. It might be the worst possible idea, but imagine the chaos!

10/10 idea. Maybe turning it up to 11.

I would go to/watch those games.

Nhl would make way more $ than they do from the draft lottery, and teams who likely need it the most (bad teams don’t sell out as much) would get revenue streams.

Yeah, to hell with these calls for adding a play-in, the nhl pre-draft lottery tournament chaos extravaganza (patent pending) would be way more exciting!

Someday I hope we get more behind the scenes about how most owners are making all the critical decisions entirely yet as fans we all think it’s the gm.

Imagine you own your favorite team. Are you really going to keep your hands off the roster? Hell no. I’m choosing everything, everything. Gm does exactly what I say or I get a new gm.

But we don’t want to upset the owners, and the league represents them, so there isn’t a means to fire them. We install a fall guy basically on every team.

Now the Flames don’t wanna buy out Sutter, so either treliving is the fall guy or he’s like I’m out this is wack, and the blame for everything this season should be at the owners doorstep.

the idea of a play-in tournament a la the NBA is awful to begin with. There's a reason why it's always like the first thing i get rid of in MyLeague in 2K.

Talbot not returning to OTT next season really makes the Gustavsson trade look like one of the worst NHL trades seen.

As to me thats the kind of move that gets a GM fired

Cause look at what Gustavsson is doing rn for the Wild. That was someone who could have sparked something for OTT but Dorion rushed and now they got to pray Forsberg rebounds and either one of the kids rebound or sign some old guy to backup

You mean the Flames played with fire and got burned? There's a joke in there somewhere, but i'll have to dig through the ashes to find it.

Anaheim getting him would be terrifying

They got Zegras, McTavish and Gaucher already

Adding him would just make one of the best young C cores in the NHL

As its a 1-2-3 punch with Gauncher being that gritty 2-way 4th line C teams love

I'm not gonna lie. I am EXTREMELY interested to see who the new GM will "consider worth moving" and what types he'll prioritize acquiring - with input from the surviving coach, no doubt. I would love to get into a bone picking* session with the Flames if certain guys suddenly become expendable.

Triveling should have fired him a while back and saved himself the trouble.
