Fair money and term. But I don’t get the NMC.

I don’t think it will affect them that much though, relatively short and cheap deal.

It’s okay, he’s more of a bottom pairing/extra defender and should be in that role this year, might look better than being in the top 4 last year. On par with the value he should get. Multi year I’m not a fan of but you can bury it if you need to or have him in the press box

They can't waive him/send him to the minors without his permission thanks to the NMC. Not likely you see this contract buried.

Yes you’re right I missed the NMC! Still not too terrible but definitely should have only been 1 year!

He actually played better than expected last year, but not up to his contract. That said, $1 million is good for what he provides. The MNC is a little weird and it means you can't bury him in the AHL. Still a win for Ottawa.

Honestly, I like the deal. They likely had to add the 2nd year to lower the AAV this year and be able to resign ADB and Pinto. Not too bothered by the NMC; it'll add more competition to JBD and Thompson for that 3RD, plus his leadership is excellent.

Don't like the contract. Subtraction by addition. Shouldn't be more than league minimum

Lmao. Honestly the cost is fine, but the fact they can't send him down if he falls off another cliff is the issue.

I think he gets a worse wrap then he deserves typically but he's approaching that age where he could become a 7D any moment.

His on-ice goal differential was -25 last year. His expected on-ice goal differential was -27.1, so he played the worst minutes of any d-man on the Senators and did pretty well.

Could be worse, Calgary gave up a 1st round pick and two second round picks for him back in 2017. Noah Dobson was the 1st round pick and he scored more points last season that Hamonic scored in three years with Calgary.

There was definitely value in having him last year. He was clearly a well liked and well respected member of the locker room, and Jake Sanderson in particular really seemed to be grateful for having him in his ear. But as a hockey player he's absolutely horrendous. He's a defensive Dman who put up some of the worst defensive numbers in the league

NMC is a bit weird, but if he genuinely left money on the table to get it, then it's fine. It seems like a case of a veteran who wanted the security of not moving.

The Senators do not regularly give them out. Giroux and Tkachuk are the only two current players to get one. Prior to that, Ryan got a modified one.

In a worst case scenario, he is a cheap buyout next year. Second worst case scenario is he is a healthy scratch, which burns a few 100k extra compared to a player on a 6 figure two way type deal.

This tells me Dorion has some sort of fall back plan to move Debrincat. Even this small contract doesn't fit if he stays. Obviously, with how contentious things have gotten in the media, I doubt they keep him anyways.

To be fully honest here, numbers matter, but so does the game. Mike Reilly has good numbers, but does not live up to them on the ice (a weird paradox, and no offense to him). Here we have Hamonic, who is decently good on the ice (a solid #6) and yet he doesn’t have the best numbers.
