It's a good contract, even if he doesn't improve. Plus, he's still an RFA at the end of it.

Good bridge contract and he should be All-Star-eligible by the time it expires.

This will be excellent value for the next two seasons.

I’d call this a win in the sense they got him signed and nobody offer sheeted him. This puts EDM best window for the next two years before Bouchard and Draisaitl get very very large raises.

His next deal could be higher than Nurses

$3.5M + $4.3M? Great job, Holland. That's a very reasonable QO.

Same thing they did with Nurse. Just repeating history. The big extension is gonna hurt.

WIN-WIN deal as EDM gets him at a bargain while he gets to play the point on a historically good Power Play. He will get at least double AAV on his next contract if he keep putting up points!

This deal reminds me of the bridge contract Sergachev signed before his huge contract.

Tampa won the cup while Sergachev was on this bridge deal, just saying

Have a feeling bridging him will come back to bite them in 2 years. Great player, hopefully they can get some success while he’s on the bridge deal

This is good. I thought he’d get a lot more, and he probably would have if the term was longer. There’s a good chance this will cost the Oilers more in the long run, but it makes it a lot easier for them to remain a contender for the next two years, which should be the priority now. Something may have to give after that, but they can cross that bridge when they come to it.

My hot take, Bouchard is gonna be top-10 in Norris voting this year. With the PP1 spot and more minutes with a solid partner in Ekholm, I see him having a huge year. Something along the lines of 65-70 points while being defensively solid in bigger minutes.

Who's voting no? I'd like to hear from somebody who isn't an Oilers fan on why this is somehow a bad deal.

The only reason I can think of is that it’s probably going to cost them a lot more in the long run when you factor in what his next contract is likely to be, but as I said in my post above, I still think the team is better off this way than giving him more AAV for more term now. I voted yes.

I was hoping we would trade ceci and go long term with bouch, but still a good deal based on his production and he is still a RFA at the end of this extension.

Dont think Holland wanted to dump any more players or use assets to move Ceci

And I doubt Bouch would go anything less than 9m long term

Now there will be issues in 2 years but hey they 2 years away

I mean there is an argument for no as we all know how the last bridge deal went with another Oiler

Its not a bad deal in terms of money but in terms of history repeating itself so to say

I think the deal's fine now it does set up an interesting problem in 2 years but hey its 2 years away

I mean thats not a great comparison as look at TBL Dcores at the time then look at Edmonton's

Sergechev was on the third pair both runs. Also TBL had Hedman thats how deep they were

Its a nice bridge deal but its not a great comparable to the situation Sergechev was in
