77 gp, didn’t put up any stand out offensive numbers, but healed his own defensively. Defensive defence men dont get paid better than all star calibre defencemen

IMO Sanderson will be better than a prime Vlasic while being better offensively. He should be paid like a top 20 defenseman. And they are considering cap going up by a lot in the next couple years

Watch him, you won’t notice him because he does everything right. The trait of a good defensemen.

Unless you are Cale Makar. Do everything right and be the best at it . Then everyone notices. That is how you win a Norris. Sandy has a long way to go.

It’s like Norris sure he’s overpaid but the going rate for a 2C will be 8 mill in a couple years. The Brayden Schenns of the world will be worth 8 mill. 8 mill is the new 6 mill

overpaying players before it was cool. Sens playing 4D Chess

for real though i don't think he was ever going to command more than what tkachuk and stutzle were making so i don't think they saved themselves any money on this deal by signing it early

Could you elaborate? I don't understand.

If Bedard was a UFA at 18 instead of draft eligible, he probably would get 13.26M from someone.

I'm messing around. They basically have the same level of NHL experience. Not literally of course. Just joking. Sanderson has most of a full season under his belt. So why not make Bedard the highest paid player in yhe NHL. Just joking.

If that's the case, the Sens are in deep trouble

If having a 21/22 yo D man as your best defender means your in for trouble; that would mean nearly half the league is in “deep trouble” lol.

I’d rather a team bet on Sanderson (youth) than overpay Chabots upcoming UFA deal.

Bad short term, excellent long term

Is this a risk? Yes.

Is it a big risk? Ehhhh.

Will this pay off and be great value a few years from now? Yeah.

Am I missing something, or is Ottawa looking awfully capped out next year?

$8,400,000 | Timothy Stutzle (F)
$8,200,000 | Brady Tkachuk (F)
$8,000,000 | Joshua Norris (F)
$8,000,000 | Jake Sandeson (D)
$8,000,000 | Tomas Chabot (D)
$6,500,000 | Claude Giroux (F)
$5,000,000 | Drake Batheson (F)
$4,600,000 | Jakob Chychrun (D)
$4,600,000 | Artem Zubbens (D)
$4,000,000 | Jonas Korpisalo (G)
$3,000,000 | Mathieu Joseph (F)
$2,800,000 | Anton Forsberg (G)
-------------------------------------------
71,200,000 | 12 Player Totals
12,300,000 | 11 Player Budget

Even after adding cap growth, can they afford to re-sign these guys?

$5,000,000 | Vladimir Tarasenko (?)
$3,000,000 | Dominik Kubalik (?)
$3,000,000 | Erik Branstrom (?)
$3,000,000 | Shane Pintos (?)

You voted no on the Miro deal? Miro Heiskanen? That deal was a bargain before the ink was even dry.

Feel free to actually read anything I said about that, both here and in that thread.
Like do you go out of your way to purposefully not understand anything?

Yes, they look cap strapped this year! 18/23 roster spots filled with under a mil in cap space remaining.

what poor management! they could have bridge him for 2 years @ 3million and then give 8 years @ 8million, or at least got him for 8 years at 6million right now, unreal!

20 man roster with Norris and Forsberg. 21 with a minimum wage call-up.

Although I heard you can't possibly run a roster like that.

After 77 games played?
That contract is outrageous.

Take off the homer glasses before you judge this one.

Yeah I'm on the side of not enough games played to warrant such a contract.

Seems like a lot after only one NHL season.

Not to mention that he had a -6 +/- rating in that year.

to be fairrrrrrrrrrr +/- isn't the greatest stat and it's better to look at in context with the rest of the team. -6 wasn't an outlier on the sens

a lot for one season in the nhl though? yeah.

At worst, he’ll live up to the contract. More likely he’ll provides excess value. It will be fun to come back to this thread in a few years.

Oh its the bet you take, but if he blows the wheels off the season, this is still the contract he might get, I think that it would have been a slight reach but good deal if he was at 7.15-7.4, that would be a bet I am willing to make, there is a good chance he lives up to this, but he could also be a 2nd pair guy who has big lulls in his game. it’s just a low upside bet but high risk. I just think that at best it is a market contract

Edit: I think I'm going to vote yes for the same reason I voted No on Miro's deal.

I respect your self criticism however saying no to miro’s deal meant you really didn’t know anything about him. It looks like people are sleeping on Sanderson the same way.

to be fair, he was better than power and defo should've been a finalist

I'd be interested to know why you think Sanderson had a better rookie season than Power. Power had 2 minutes more ice time per game (leading all rookies) as well as 11 more even strength points. The advanced stats I checked (Corsi and Fenwick) are quite similar numbers, with Power's usually being slightly higher. Also factor in Sanderson has had a whole extra year of development. You could make the argument that they had virtually equal rookie seasons but I don't see proof of your statement unless you'd like to provide some

Talk about missing the point entirely, and I'm agreeing with what I said 2 years ago

Maybe go back and read what I said, and if you need more context, read what I said in the Miro thread too.

Like seriously how do you read something, and then respond to an entirely different argument like this? You literally cut out the arguement and got mad about what was left lmao. Blows my mind that people like you can type and breathe at the same time

Just in case you still haven't put it together - what makes this contract good, and Miros bad is opportunity cost
