There's a good chance the "Future Considerations" here is an AHL player without an NHL contract. Assuming that's the case, then this is a fair deal. ... It's a fair deal no matter what, as Novak played in the ECHL last year, so I doubt this trade does anything to change either team.

Normally, the team that receives future considerations loses the trade.

Fiddlesticks.

Ottawa wins the trade by having one less player taking up space on their reserve list

Get a familiar face I guess? He played with Harris and Struble at NU so I'm guessing the team saw lots of him in the past years and saw something in him.

I know nothing about Novak, but I will assume he is the next McDavid. Woohoo!

He's a 24 year old former 7th round pick. Not really a whole lot to write home about. There was a little hope he might turn into something a couple years into being drafted. Had one big year, but it was a total one off. Habs fans, probably Don't bother giving him much thought tbh.

Laval has him signed, so all Montreal gets here is players rights they pretty much already had.

I’m pretty sure MTL has Novak on an AHL deal already with Laval, this just means Montreal can sign Novak now if they like what he does for our AHL squad

Looks like Ottawa didn't want to sign this guy so why hold him back if somebody else is interested?

Apparently Novak was already contracted with Laval so i guess the Habs wanted him in the fold proper.

there's a very slim chance this leads to a proper NHL contract since he was in the ECHL last season, but a chance nonetheless.

He has a interesting resume. Played for teams I have never heard of . Best wishes to former 7th round pick in his pro career.

Out of the 72 players invited to training camp, he is the worse next to Isaac Dufort (invited)

He's essentially AHL depth. This trade costed Montreal nothing, even if it's 0.000001 value point, Montreal wins lol

Trading a bad player for nothing isn't a W for the team taking him .. even for free
