Not huge on the player, but I was anticipating him coming in at 2.5m, at 825 that is a value deal and nullifies the negitive that his defensive warts bring

Bedgruding acceptance of an offer by the player because they have no bargaining power and they judge it will do more harm than good for them to miss camp/games, after giving an appropriate amount of time for a possible offer sheet or trade to materialize.
It's not like players/teams are squabbling hard over dollars in the $800k range. At that amount teams are often pushing for term while the player is pushing for a higher salary.
If the player doesn't fold on term or the team doesn't fold on dollars, they just default to these near minimum "prove it" deals.

This would have been a steal at twice the price, plus they are still an RFA at the end. However, this is what happens when you are a free agent and most of the league is out of cap room. You have to accept a lot less than you are worth.

Him making this compared to double the AAV gives him a better shot at making the team.

I expected slightly more term and a higher cap hit. That’s some tidy business from Guerin and it’s clear as day Addison is on a prove-it deal.

So if he blows up, the Wild won't sign any forwards next year? Still have buyouts to contend with. I guess if he flops, it's not an issue but I'm assuming he'll have a good season and want a term next year.
