I'm sure I'll see this exact post 175 times before draft day, but I'm not bored of it yet.

Would you take the same trade? A top five pick for a 2C? No, you would not.

Columbus arent know for being the brightest org. Considering they were trying to trade for Lindholm ( a 29 year old on a down year) while actively being in the middle of a rebuild. I doubt they hire a genius since they are looking at Jeff Gorton (known idiot)

Pettersson if he wants out of Vancouver (only way hes available) is worth 4 1st rounders (his offersheet). This package blow that out of the water

2nd line center ? Easy a top 20 centermans in the league.....

He haves more points than Zibanejad, Hintz, Scheifele, Stutzle and somes other 1st centermans of somes teams.

In this scenario where you have CBJ and your own 2024 pick then at least one of them is included in the Pettersson deal with one of Reinbacher/Slaf/Caufield minimum

Even so, I'd rather have Lindholm than Suzuki. One of them has proven track record of success on a good team with a star player who's in Columbus. I'd be shocked if it's Gorton, since it would be a demotion for him. I'd be even more surprised if JD is still around by draft day. They will not be moving that pick.

If Pettersson wants out of Vancouver he certainly isn't signing in Montreal, he'd be worth more than what tkchuck got which was 115 point player a top paring dman and a 1st. We are getting a couple late first and a decent defensive prospect which is a bit redundant with Willander and Hronek In the System. A Middle 6 forward at best in Newhook. The package just doesn't interest Vancouver. We'd need Dach+++ coming back at minimum

I wouldn’t call him a top 20 center

I’d take McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, Draisaitl, Pettersson, Hughes, Crosby, Barkov, Point, Eichel, Stutzle, Thomas, Aho, Thompson, Miller, Hischier, Hintz, Barzal, Zibanejad, Scheifele, Kopitar, and Bedard over him. Then some arguable ones as well (JEE, O’Reilly, Kadri, Larkin, Horvat, Mittelstadt, Lindholm, and Trocheck). Yes I know some of those guys aren’t having great seasons but they’re still at the very least in the same conversation as Suzuki

At this point I’m not sure Dach is much more valuable than Newhook considering his injury history. I’d start by asking for Slaf/Caufield++ (or potentially Montreal’s pick or in this scenario CBJ’s included)

canucks would target an elite roster play or 2, and then maybe a 2st and prospect to even out the value.

suzuki plus mtl 2025 1st plus another piece, kind of return.

none of the pieces you included in the top trqade are even close to a guaruntee

Where is the source saying they were close to trading for lindholm?

And obviously the jackets decline this trade. Also EP starts with Mtls first and one of reinbacher/slaf/caulfied

If ypur being disingenuous and calling him a 2C.

Hes top 30 in points right now and has selke calibre defensive metrics. Hes a top 20 centre easily right now

I simply don't consider him to be a 1C on a good team. He's in the same category as Dylan Larkin for me. They're good, not great, and you're not winning in the playoffs with them as your de facto 1C.

If Pettersson wants to leave, his value isnt gonna be like as if he doesnt want to leave. My trade also includes MTLs 1st and Reinbacher. The additional 1st make up the difference between a 15-20 pick to a 7-10 pick, if not more

Habs made it to a cup final with him as 1C

Danault was played as a defensive 3C during those playoffs.

I question at what point in the year they were interested in Lindholm. Maybe it was plausible at the start of the season when they were still fooling themselves into believing they were a competitive team, but certainly not close to when he was dealt. The report also says that they decided trading away futures didn't make sense so I don't know why that would change now for Suzuki.

You can’t be serious, what does a guy have to do to prove he is a 1C? Suzy is our captain he’s not going anywhere so it doesn’t really matter.
