Wow, this deadline has been a real buyer's market. I don't think there's been a single deal that can be considered an undisputed overpay which I feel like is guaranteed to happen 2-3 times each deadline.

It's just a dumb thing to do. Too often the team giving up the blue-chip prospect ends up regretting it. Nobody wants to be Washington in the next Forsberg for Erat trade

Gotta assume that Toffoli was only willing to sign an extension that fitz found unsavory. (Or he's gonna pull a Sami Vatanen). Not thrilled but given the market it's a fine trade for the Devils. Good add for the Jets

High value prospects rarely get moved.

High "potential".
Suzuki for Pacioretty. Barron for Lehkonen.
Those players would get more like two 2nd/3rds by the looks of things this year.

4 Canadian teams played for in his career, 3 more to go....

This summer he'll be signing with his hometown Leafs to be Bertuzzi's replacement.

Good trade for Winnipeg, okay trade for New Jersey assuming that extension talks had failed, great trade for Los Angeles fans so now we can stop seeing the Toffoli-for-LA's-2024-first trades.

Who voted Jersey? 50% retention makes this an absolute steal.

Such a good deal for WPG. I figured the MTL 2024 2nd round pick would have to be involved, shocked that it wasn't!

He's on pace for 35G. When was the last time a 35G pending UFA didn't return a 1st? Devils got bent.

Poor Toffoli, since being signed as a free agent by Bergy at a very reasonable cap hit he has been a good producer, good two way player and by all accounts a great teammate who says the right things to the media…yet he has been traded three times during his four year contract. I don’t get it, it’s almost like being a good but not great player on a good contract with a good attitude just makes you a moveable asset and nothing more. I really hope this guy finds a more stable home on his next contract, he deserves it.

Toffoli has played better than Lindholm for 2 straight years.

Vancouver paid about 3 times this value.

Very good deal for Winnipeg.

This looks like a steal for Winnipeg, considering his playoff experience and proven ability to adapt to new teams and remain productive no matter where he plays. I figured anybody who was after Guentzel but didn't get him would pivot to Toffoli. I would have offered a 1st and wondered if it would be enough.

Quite the turnaround for the Jets from the offseason uncertainty. They look like real Cup Threats atm. Cool to see for Jets fans.

Yeah Vancouver and Edmonton missed out here big time even just renting Toffoli significantly increases their odds to go deep this post season.. but thinking other teams didn't want to risk renting...afterall no guarantee he'll resign...still for what Winnipeg paid it doesn't matter if he doesn't stay getting Toffoli even just for the playoffs is already a good move no matter what...

I suppose it does seem more embarrassing to give up a prospect who becomes a star than if you give up a draft pick that ends up getting used to select a star, but in the end I don’t think the GMs care that much. In fact, I think they may actually like it when a player they give up does well for the other team, because it makes them look like a good trading partner. Nobody wants to deal with a guy who’s trying to fleece them. I don’t think Vegas loses much sleep over Nick Suzuki. Nor will they over Edstrom if he becomes a star.
