Three players coming back is all over the place? I’d prefer a goalie be part of the deal but a team like LA would have nothing to offer there

Devils wouldn’t trade Mercer+ for two years of Nylander

KIngs are out on Nylander at that price, Moore and Kaliyev collectively are cheaper and provide more goals for the Kings (29G) they are only set to improve next season at their bargain rate, and that's even before including rookie breakout Durzi.

He doesn't just evaporate into dust when his contract ends. There is such a thing as re-signing him or trading him in the last year if contract talks don't go well.

Moore (1.875) Kaliyev ($894k) Durzi ($809k) collectively half of Nylander’s salary. They are much cheaper to keep, even Kempe who is out scoring Nylander will take closer to $5M.

LOL without checking I'm 90% sure Nylander has passed 30 goals.

Ah sorry, I didn’t notice he had 32, but a difference of 3 goals for a rookie and a guy who was promoted later in the season to the second line. Still have more to give in my opinion.

I just can't see Colorado trading Byram one for one for Nylander, never mind that package. He looks like a cornerstone dman.

I can understand being unwilling because you think Nylander won't be resigned. Value wise, though, I still think Nylander, the proven piece, has more value than the other 3. But if the kings aren't going to compete now than I could maybe understand turning that down.

Wouldn't hate it, provided Girard can play both sides.

He’s definitely worth a great value, but Kings aren’t ready to move two of their most promising rookies and their budget priced 2nd liner. Their cap savings allow us to balance the teams more expensive contracts

These are the packages you want and the packages you won’t get. I do wonder, if you crap in one hand and wish in the other, which hand fills up first?

Then wait two years and sign him. Makes no sense to give up a premium cost controlled asset for him when you can just sign him two years later

IMO, Nylander or players with a similar contract aren't worth nearly as much proposed in "trade value". Dallas and Kings might be the best fit for a trade since they have cap space and expiring contract on a right winger.

    I don't understand this logic.

2 seasons is still quite a bit of time and it integrates the player into your system and culture which also allows you to negotiate contracts earlier and not have to compete with 30 other teams on the open market.

By your logic why would anyone ever trade for a good player. Might as well just wait for free agency.

Stars most definitely decline, Oettinger isn’t moving unless it’s a massive overpay, Nylander isn’t that. Plus they’re moving two of their best prospects.

    It’s an easy no.

That's not what the Leafs are trading though. The Leafs are trading 2 years of Nylander. You might re-sign him after those years, sure, but you aren't the only team who can anymore so the Leafs don't see value for it.

2 seasons is also enough time for Nylander to say "I wanna test free agency" and leave. There is no guarantee that Nylander stays with the Devils after those two years which makes it risky. Devils rather keep the guy who is 6 years younger and is under contract/RFA for longer and could end up being on the team longer than Nylander

There's a difference. Nylander has 2 years left. Guys like Connor, Keller, etc have 3+ years on their contract. Rather wait for Nylander to hit free agency over those guys

A Mock Trade I had with Nashville (they could do it even if they resigned Forsberg but it especially makes sense if they lose him) would be something along the lines of:
    Tomasino + 2022 1st + Yakov Trenin + 2 depth picks
    For
Nylander + another NHL asset (Kase or Holl make most sense).
Tomasino is the main piece, will develop into a very good top 6 winger but his offensive ceiling is quite a bit lower than Willy’s offensive ceiling. 1st is a 1st. Trenin is a very solid bottom 6er who would replace Mikheyev at a cheaper price and while isn’t as good two way still provides similar value while also providing some more physicality which isn’t necessarily crucial, but it is an added bonus
