I mean, I put WILD in bold for a reason, do i think this will happen? No. Is it bold and hot takes, and having some fun ? Yes.
Also, I think Calgary might trade Vladar mid-season, as Dustin Wolf is also worthy of the backup position
Wolf has spent 1 year in the AHL. Yes he won goalie of the year, but another year won’t hurt him. He’ll probably get a handful of starts to see how he handles the NHL, but there’s no reason to get rid of Vladar when he’s a quality backup for league minimum, and ESPECIALLY not mid-season, which would put us one injury away from a guy with 0 (current) NHL games experience as our starter. Vladar is still an RFA next summer. If Wolf has another great year in the AHL and shows he can hang in some NHL starts, then Vladar will get moved next off-season. That’s the current plan, that’s been the plan since we got Vladar last year, and that’s what will happen. Like I said a few pages ago, having too many good goalies is a good thing. You don’t try to push them out the door and bank on guys with no experience, especially because goalie development is so unpredictable (Sparks won AHL goalie of the year and the Calder Cup, and look how he turned out when the Leafs relied on him as their backup with only 17 games of NHL experience, and he was 24 at the time, Wolf’s only 21. Not that I think Wolf will be Sparks, but you never know, and that’s the point). We’re finally at a position of strength in goal for the first time since Kipper was playing literally every single game. We’re not giving that up until Wolf forces our hand, which will hopefully be by next off-season.
