I mean right now Walsh's biggest competition are two guys that are AHL tweeners acquire from CHI and Zboril is a LD that can play RD, but hasn't exactly made an impact in the NHL.

Seems like a pretty minor trade, but Boston acquired three 22-24 year-old unsigned RFA right defensemen today, so I'm looking for deeper meaning here. I guess it means they’re not going to re-sign Clifton, and maybe Carlo will be traded too. Or maybe a quantity versus quality thing and they’re just trying to create some healthy competition for the 6th defenseman slot hoping one of the three will distinguish himself in camp.

Walsh is one year older, and therefore likely one year closer to the NHL, plus he had the better AHL season last year. That said, I doubt either make an impact at the NHL level, so it is mostly a draw.

Boston's going all in on #7 defensemen this offseason

They must be planning on unloading someone on the D-line, which makes sense as they currently have the most expensive D-core in the league. Wonder who gets shipped out

It appears that way. The path has been cleared.

Gonna hurt our cap in a few years, but so be it.

(My question is, why now? Could have waited until camps were done and roster cuts were approaching)

Reilly, Forbort, Gryzlyk. Probably 2/3 go if not all three, but likely in that order.

Another case of NHL GMs showing us who really has value and who doesn't. Today we found out Reilly Walsh has as much value as Shame Bowers. Take that however as you wish.

I'd imagine Lindholm, McAvoy & Carlo are staying. One of Grz & Forbort are going to get moved (maybe both). Clifton is going to walk in FA, this added 3 RHD today with 2 being NHL ready

Nahhh i dont buy it. If Bowers was a budding power forward maybe but were talking about Bowers here. Guy is waiver wire fodder. Even non data guys can look at point totals and see Walsh was the better prospect.

Nah not likely. Carlo is on a really good contract and BOS needs a lot of those right now.

These trades for RHD depth pretty much confirm Cliffton is walking.

I meant internally on Devils staff. Bowers is a piece for AHL team in Utica, which needs centers.

Ya no I understood. Either way listen, we all agreed Walsh should have been worth more than this. I just think we overestimated what a player like this is worth to NHL teams.

Lame answer but we'll see. This is going far back but I remember when Jacob MacDonald walked after his 55 point season in the AHL and thought the Devils blew it then.
