They are walking him straight to UFA? Oof.

He had another RFA window next summer.

This takes Yegor straight to UFA status.
I cannot for the life of me understand why Flames didn't QO Yegor at 2.05m and figure out what you want to do with him long-term next summer.
Flames keeping this string of Ls intact.

I'm very happy for Yegor though. He gets a decent aav and UFA status as soon as he could've gotten it.
Well deserved.

I think the cap hit is just about perfect, but why only two years? Now he's just gonna leave when his contract's up. Unless they plan on trading him as a rental in year 2...

Terrible move, he obviously won't stay in Calgary long term and just lost value as a trade bait.

Straight to UFA.

Very brief sample size so far, but I'm not loving Conroy's start as Flames GM...

Money value is good but why waste term control on him??? Walk him to ufa for no reason at all… only way Calgary would have won that trade was if they could keep him for the long run not give him away in 2 year’s time… 2050000 in qualifying offer for 1 year would have been way better if you’re uncertain of what he’s worth

LMAOOO 2 year deal. his QO was 2, so they paid him 4.2 mill for the second year and walked him straight to ufa

Wasn’t trilled to see Conroy as new GM to start it off but oh my he’s already up for grabs for the title of worst GM in the league after only a month. He started out by butchering the coach getting Darryl Sutters second hand even though they had the best coach in the ahl in Mitch Love in the system. Then he failed to convince anyone off the big 2024 free agency players to stay. Now he just traded away their best player last season for 2 years of a 3rd liner and a 3rd rounder.

Actually thought they did okay with the trade, but this is pretty bad.

He'll be an UFA in 2 years. Not a great look for Calgary, especially when its best players want to leave the org

Oof. So Calgary didn't get much for Tyler Toffoli and now they signed a bad contract for the main piece they got back. This is a double lose form them.

There’s been a lot of trades for unsigned RFAs this week. People evaluating them seem to have forgotten that the fact that the player is unsigned lowers his value, especially if he’s arbitration eligible. This contract is a perfect example of why this is this is the case.

When you trade for an unsigned RFA, there’s uncertainty around how much you’re going to have to pay him, and whether you’ll be able to sign him for term or he’ll fast-track himself to unrestricted free agency. Teams value cost and term certainty when they’re trading for somebody, so conversely, they’re generally not going to give up as much when there’s uncertainty. As it turns out, Calgary traded one year of Toffoli for two years of Sharangovich. Anything beyond that is uncertain. Hopefully the teams that acquired Vilardi, Newhook, Blackwood and Colton will have better luck with their new acquisitions.

They turned Tofoli at 1 year at 4 mil to yegor at 2 years for 3.1 and a third. Seems pretty terrible. Why walk him straight to free agency?

And if they can't extend him in 2 years or less then he gets traded at the deadline to a contender and those assets get added to this trade-tree.

$3.1 million for a top 6 forward is really cheap. I'm sure he wanted higher AAV to "buy out" some of his UFA years but Calgary has so many questions and Yegor still has to prove consistency himself. It's a risky move, but all bridge contracts are (for both parties).

Is he a top 6 forward? I'd say middle six

I do think that he is a top 6 forward. He has a great shot and has the skills to play with other high end offensive players. He is misused in a bottom six role and needs to be an offensively deployed winger.

With the Flames he has to compete with Mangiapane and Dube for roles this year (barring any other moves) and maybe Coronato/Pelletier. Coleman is better in the 3rd line role.

The comps to Mangiapane and Dube are pretty good actually so it will be very interesting to see how the lines form up; Sharangovich is a better shooter than Dube, bigger than both of them, I would put Sharangovich on Huberdeau's right wing on the top line and slot Dube/Mangiapane on the 2nd line (centers are TBD based on Lindholm/Backlund trade situation).

I'm really curious how their C's shake out between trades/being resigned
