So long my sweet prince…

Should be a great deal for WPG. Hopefully his health has turned the corner and he can keep being a productive player.

Yeah, why should we have Alex Iafallo for $4 million, Gabe Vilardi for $3,437,500 and Rasmus Kupari for $1 million, plus an early second-round draft pick, when we could have Pierre-Luc DuBois for only $62,500 more?

Good signing for Gabe, great signing for Winnipeg and I hope Gabe continues his upward path this coming season.

Yes great deal imo, WPG gets fair value, and he expires an RFA still.

I think a lot of people were suspecting more which I don't understand because he only broke out this season and seemed like LA was pretty close too giving up on him before the season. This gives Vilardi a chance to truly prove he is the player he was last season. And WPG doesn't risk giving a hefty contract to a guy who could be a '1 year wonder'. Not saying he is that, but too me it's a valid concern to have.

I like it! Great AAV and still under team control. I figure Vilardi went this way so he could cash in after 2 years and WPG gets some piece of mind just in case (god forbid), the injury bug bites again.

Good price, and doesn't walk him to UFA, so that's a win.

Likely would have gotten 3.5x2 from a cap strapped LA so good signing.
I hope they put him with Ehlers and Lowry.

More likely with Ehlers and Perfetti as the second line. Iofallo and either Appleton or Barron will be third line with Lowry.

Jets are fun to project their possible lines with the new additions. The Vilardi deal is a great value whether he is anywhere in the top 6 or even the 3C. He does seem to be destined to play Center in Winnipeg so he'll need a playmaker on one of his wings.

Jets clearly got the better end of the stick in the PLD trade.

Amazing deal. Vilardi will be better then Dubois. YOU WATCH! Gabe is a big solid centerman that can also play the wing. He will get lots of ice time on the Jets. I would be stunned if he doesn't put up a 30 goal - 50-60 point campaign this season.

Considering he was the key piece in the Dubois deal, I’m surprised they didn’t go longer term, because it could be a replay of the Dubois situation when this contract runs out, but I think this is a smart contract. Too often we see GMs ruin a good trade with a bad signing (or follow a questionable trade with a worse signing). Worst case they’ll get at least two years out of him that they wouldn’t have got out of Dubois, at a fraction of the cost.
