Alright the fact that the Oilers goalie coach has been around for 10 years has been living rent free in my mind all day. He's been around since McTavish was GM and Eakins was coach. I could understand if he was a really good coach but considering Edmonton has struggled at this position through his entire tenure and their one good goalie had his own coach, it really seems ludicrous. Does this guy have some really solid dirt on Daryl Katz or Kevin Lowe or something?
They probs have not viewed it as a key positional concern. Like to be fair we didnt till recently and now we got a department and new guy with new ideas
Oilers should do the same. New guy with new ideas for the goalies may help things
How they have not done it last 3-4 years is a bit of a surprise
No it's not.
Ken Holland is on the record for using the actual, honest-to-god NHL Guide and Record book when he considers moves. The analytics movement began in Edmonton nearly 20 years ago in some blogger's basement and the team only founded its own analytics department this summer. This team has been contrarian to its dying breath since the OEG started bringing in guys from the Boys on the Bus Era.
The last time the Oilera were cutting edge, Gretzky was putting up 200-point seasons. They've been stagnant ever since.
get: Petr Mrazek and Jarred Tinordi
get: Jack Campbell and two first round picks
Campbell's buyout and acquiring Mrazek and Tinordi isn't worth two firsts, at least not to a team that needs to also add to its blueline and improve its forward depth.
Economically, it makes more sense for Edmonton to just keep Campbell in the AHL at his sub-$4M and run Pickard as a backup.
