I really like this deal actually, Webber is a towering 6'6 LD whose skating and defensive abilities are the center points of his game. Locks it down very effectively in his own end, and I doubt we would've gotten someone better in the 6th round in 2 years time. Im going to assume Webber informed Carolina he wasn't going to sign there, thus the trade. This is a fantastic gamble for the Leafs

We have a glut of defensive prospects and he just not even close to making the cut

Edmundson and Weber in the same day wow Treliving must've really liked Montreal's blueline in 2021

I like the trade for Carolina because they get an asset for someone who they weren't going to sign. At 23 Webber doesn't have a lot of developing left unless he's a real late bloomer, but he could still become a depth player for the Leafs and they avoid having to compete for his rights with other teams this way

Honestly, good move for the Leafs. Chances he can be a late bloomer and the 6th round pick has a low chance of making the league

I mean when you're a team with excellent drafting like Carolina and pick up guys like Alex Nikishin, it's no doubt Webber was lost in the depth charts. Good move for the Canes to pick up a draft pick for a guy who likely saw he had no opportunity and refused to sign, but that doesn't change the fact I like this a lot of Toronto

We have... Chadwick and Kokkonen on LD essentially. We need LD

(We also have some minor prospects like Koster, Fusco etc but still)

Fair. Toronto gets a big defensive prospect, Canes get another dart throw for a player well down their depth chart who wasn't gonna sign.

Big fella has been pairing with Willander for a lot of season on top unit. Good move by Leafs.

(Until Carolina gets an AHL team…they are going to have a tough time signing some of these guys).

It's a player who might never play in the NHL for a draft pick that will likely never sign an ECL.

Call it a fair trade.

If I had a nickel for every time Don Waddell acquired a 6th round pick from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the last week, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that its happened twice

Are you allowed to say wtf here? Why chase a prospect in a position you don't really need? Why give up anything for such a gamble? Why now? I realize its just a 6th, but that could have been a chip in a part of a larger deal for a piece they actually need...

Looking at Leafs D prospects, it's likely he will play eventually lmao

Expires this summer, lots of teams looking at getting him in UFA. This guarantees leafs will get him. The leafs do need LD
