<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmh1055</b></div><div>From what I am looking at rather than buying out JVR he could still be shipped off for Zaitsev. I'm not sure Ottawa would include a pick with Zaitsev though. The Flyers prize is some cap relief this year and still having a player they could use. Zaitsev would be a bit of an insurance policy on Ellis helping keep the team afloat if he gets injured again or ends up not even being healthy since that is still in question. I like that idea.

I also still like using the additional cap space to help acquire Holl and a 1st round pick. We all like Fedotov but it is possible he's not ready and Mrazek ends up being a nice backup option.

As far as LW goes, Lindblom is a possible buyout option so I'm not sure I'm ready to consider him the 2nd best LW on the team. Noah Cates proved in my opinion that he's a responsible 3rd line LW that can likely score 15 to 20 goals next season. Desnoyers would be a very young player but he would be the playmaking winger you're thinking of so I'd like to see him have the opportunity to make it. The other LW that is not being mentioned is Scott Laughton. He can fill any hole on that side rather than being the 4th line center. Ratcliffe also looked good as a 4th line LW in his short stint so I'd be fine with him getting a look there. If Laughton moves to LW that opens the 4th line center spot to a veteran like Patrick Brown or to Zayde Wisdom or Tanner Lacynski.

Fletcher looks bad because of the injuries. You are right. He was aggressive last offseason and it should have been good. But now, he needs to be patient and see if Ellis can be healthy. Any other big UFA signing will have minimal effect on the team's fortunes if Ellis can't be healthy at all. This is what makes Zaitsev a worthwhile risky addition for the team.</div></div>

Agree on the Zaitsev, something I'ver posted on here many times before.

I think alot of posters think that we'll retain 50% on JVR for nothing back, when it cost similar amount to put him in the minors. He has some value, but I expect, like you, he'll be dealt for an equally bad spare part (Zaitsev from OTT, Hoffman from MTL, Kassian from EDM, etc...)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmh1055</b></div><div>It's a lot of wasted cap space for one season. But acquiring the additional 1st round pick and a depth defenseman in Holl is worth it. The Flyers have so many young players on cheap contracts that now is a good time to see what they have in those players and use the cap space to obtain more assets. Especially in the 2022 draft. I'm not worried about the loss of JVR on a buyout. I don't think the Flyers should be giving up assets to move him. A healthy Couturier and Ellis fixes a lot of the Flyers woes from last season. Morgan Frost appears to fix their missing 3rd line center problem and Laughton is a great 4th line center.</div></div>

I agree, I just cant see 7mil in wasted monies on Mrazek and JVR, when JVR could be played and moved at the deadline.

IMO I think JVR has to get moved, but he'll get moved for another team;s issue (MTL would probably give up Hoffman and a pick, OTT would give you Zaitsev and a pick, etc....), not just moving picks to get rid of him.

And I agree that looking at last yr: Bad coaching, long term injuries/losses at 1C, 2C, 1LW, 2LW, 3LW, 1RD, 4C, 4RW all missing 20 or more games (Coots, Hayes, Giroux, Farabee, Brassard, Ellis, Thompson, Allison) doomed the club and made it hard to analyze what worked/didn;t work. There will be a alot of youth on the ice, but I think the team is better served by adding one key LW in UFA to the top 6.

At RW with Koneckny, Atkinson, Tippett, Allison, Brink, Tuomaala, and probably MacEwen we are set, but the drop off from Farabee and Lindblom is a bit too much for Cates and Desnoyes/Ratcliffe.

Not exactly sure, but a good playmaking LW (Burakovsky, Nichulushin come to mind) would help. Ultimately you're right though, the youth is very promising and with good health, theres not a huge splash expected/needed.

We're deep in pretty good prospects at RW and LD especially, not great prospects, but pretty good. But I wouldn;t be surprised if a Foerster, York, Zamula, Allison forces a move of a vet (JVR, Lindblom, Laughton, Sanheim).

I know Chuck Fletcher has his detractors, but going into last season the teams weaknesses were: bad defense at RD, poor leadership and uneven goaltending. As far as Fletcher did, Hart had a good year, he acquired at lge minimum Brassard/Thompson (two solid team guys) and got 2 of the best RD available in Ellis/Risto. Even taking in the giveaway of Giotisbehere and heavy price of Risto is the almost laughable cost (in hindsight) for Ellis. The team weaknesses of 20-21 were addressed, but the injuries undid that.

This year he has no RFA/UFAs of note to worry about and can concentrate on finding the right coach, one who can develop kids.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmh1055</b></div><div>Jost and a Mid-Level Prospect. Okay. Name said Mid-Level Prospect. I seem be getting stuck on Untouchable Prospects and A Level Prospects that are also untouchable.
Also, Giroux would probably be more likely to re-sign in Colorado reasonably if the prospects of winning remain high. This might be far more appealing to trade a 1st round pick for since Colorado could control the term more on Giroux than the other players you named that don't move the needle as much. Garland and JT Miller are nice players but they pretty much score what they produce. Giroux playing 2nd line level players and not targeted as the primary player to shutdown by opponents will score significantly more.</div></div>

Ok firstly forget the 'untouchable' label, it's a myth. If Gretzky can be traded anyone can, and it's a word bandied around too often (and yes, I have used it myself on occasion). It merely signifies guys who it would have to be a hell of an overpay to move or simply aren't going to be in the discussion. If we're talking prospects or prospects just breaking into the NHL that's Newhook &amp; Byram as far as this trade goes. Beyond those two at forward the Avs have only one 'Blue chip' or A level forward prospect imo (and all of this is opinions) and that's Olausson who they likely aren't going to move unless for some kind of significantly bigger deal. Likewise they have only one goalie prospect of note in Annunen so he isn't going to be on the table either, even though he isn't an A prospect. As far as the D goes they have two definite A level prospects in my opinion. Barron &amp; Helleson. Both are righties which basically automatically increases their value as pretty much everyone wants them. Some regard Helleson more highly, some regard Barron more highly. After that there is Behrens who a lot of people are very high on as well who is a lefty. Easier to replace however so he might be available in the right deal. I personally doubt Barron or Helleson would be. In goal neither of the Avs other prospects are likely to be too tantalising. On D likewise after Behrens there isn't all that much. Forwards are the ones Colorado have a plethora of and a few I'd call B level or good downwards. They're the more likely trade chips for a rental. Ranta, Kaut, Bowers etc. I suspect PHI will want a first and although the Avs don't have one until '23 that probably works in PHI's favour as the '23 draft is expected to be better than '22. If they want a first it's unlikely they get one of the prospects above B level unless possibly Behrens, and as the need in PHI is for righties rather than lefties and they're reputedly high on Ranta, then he seems more likely. For me, I'd offer the first in '23, Ranta and Compher, with JTC being mainly to even salary but he isn't a cap dump. He has good value. Jost doesn't work on the salary side of things. If the Flyers really want a RHD then it's either/or on Helleson/Barron for me but that pick that comes with them isn't going to be a first. Maybe even as low as a third. If it swung the deal I'd maybe even throw in another lower level prospect with the 1st, Ranta &amp; Compher. That's my take on it for what it's worth. Hope that at least gives some idea as to how the prospects are viewed by this Avs fan anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmh1055</b></div><div>I don't think LA will get a 1st round pick and a good prospect for Vilardi. Maybe only 1 of those and most likely it'll be a 1st round pick from another team that is still a project. In June, it'll be 5 years since Vilardi was drafted in 2017. 1st round pick forwards usually have made the NHL by now. The 2017 draft is looking very light on the return from forwards in that draft class. The value of the players who have not made the league or have not done much since being drafted in 2017 is plummeting rapidly.

I would argue that Lemieux is a 3rd line wing in his current state. He's not a 4th liner at all. He threatens to have 2nd line potential. Looking at Lemieux's stats it seems that the 3 teams he has been on have not always trusted him to play in his natural role. Either he was taking too many penalties or still working on his defensive zone play as a a young player. It's probably a bit of both. He's been traded in season twice in his career, which has had to affect him in some way. For being drafted with lower expectations and even considering he was drafted 3 years earlier than Vilardi, Lemieux still made much more of an impact at the NHL level than Vilardi has at the same age. At age 26, I would project a reasonable expectation that Lemieux can score 15 to 20 goals a year for the next 4 years assuming good health.</div></div>

Like I said, that's how I view Gabe personally. I'm very high on him, and I'm not a fan of how LA has treated him up to this point. He played 2C all last year in his rookie season, even if it was too much too soon. I still think he's got a lot to give.

And Lemieux has played on LA's 4th line all season long with Lizotte and Kaliyev. That line has gotten a bit more time recently because of protocols that knocked Danault and Turcotte out, but they're still the 4th line.

But hey, that's why I said I'd be okay with the trade. I think it's selling high on Lemieux, and you think it's buying low. That's what makes trades happen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmh1055</b></div><div>I don't think he's been that bad. I would much rather trade Sanheim for Vilardi and Lemieux but that seemed to be a no go. LA seems like a good trade partner for the Flyers on Sanheim.</div></div>

The Kings are at such a weird juncture, from a fan perspective. They want to compete now, and start playing meaningful games for their youngsters. But they've hardly given their youngsters the time of day in the NHL. If it wasn't for 'Rona protocols, most of them would still be playing in the AHL until at least after the trade deadline. Which makes it very difficult to say they should or could trade any of them. Heck, they've even got Byfield in the AHL despite the fact he's clearly ready for the NHL. He missed 40% of the season because of injury, and with an ELC that can still slide a year, management probably won't even think about giving him more than 9 games unless they make a run in the playoffs.

With the Kings attempting to move Vilardi to the wing in the minors, I don't see them moving him until they feel they get an idea what he can provide there. That's probably why there was so much pushback. In addition, you won't get both of those players. But Lemieux and a 2nd is probably selling Sanheim short. Kings won't trade a 1st round pick, but I could see a more high-ceiling prospect/player going back instead of Lemieux. But if that's the guy you want, then I would be more than okay as a Kings fan. I like what Lemmy's brought and have been real surprised by his goal scoring, but I'm not gonna blind myself by what's likely a statistical anomaly of a season in his contract year.
