36 YO UFA that has 1 point in his last 7 games. MB Picked him up for a free a month ago and got a 3rd round pick out of it.

I wish him luck in Washington. If Kovalchuk truly wants to play here, he can sign again in the summer.

Best Bergevin could get. Any conditions on the pick?

Lmfao, that's a steal. Kovy can still be a lethal offensive tool with sheltered minutes.

Fair deal, but I thought he was worth a conditional 3rd that move up to a 2nd if Washington win's a round or two or they re-sign Kovy

This is a home run for WSH. That power play of theirs just got a new option as well.

He picked him up for free. He's 36 YO and had 1 point in his last 7 games.

1 points in his past 7 games with top PP time. Don't think he's going to be as good as you think he will be. He's a good locker room guy and his work ethic is off the charts though.

If he kept up his pace when we first signed him maybe, but seeing that he has 1 point in his past 7 games doesn't bode well that he will remain productive over the long run.

Imagine Ovi and Kovy on the same line...

Bergevin got him a great team to get the cup. Bergevin started asking a 2nd knowing it wouldnt be offered. Good luck Kovy!

Ok so he'll be amazing for his first 10 games in Washington and then he'll fall off a cliff. That's been the pattern lately

One point in his past 7 games with top PP time. Maybe it gives Washington a second powerplay line now though.

This is the expected value and MB looks like a genius turning a whole bunch of nothing into top 100 picks, but a part of my wished he could have convinced someone to offer a conditionnal 2nd.

I honestly believe he was only good in the first few games because he was well rested. After playing 10 or so games, he trailed off as he started to become fatigued. Best of wishes to him though!

You're allowed to retain below 700K?

Edit: To explain better, i meant I didn't know you could retain to the point where the other team pays a player less than 700K against the cap.

We got a 3rd round pick for somebody we got for free a month ago. I'm just happy MB didn't sign him to the reported 3.5 Million for next year.

Flipping Scandella and Kovalchuk. The guy who's running the devils is winning the trade deadline this year but Marc Bergevin is doing alright.

How? He was demoted to the 3rd line and had 1 point in the past 7 games. I wish him the best, but Habs win this easily.

Luckily for the habs, that can still happen.

We will see how he does on the Capitals, but if the past few games are an indication, he will be lucky to get over 1 million in the offseason.

Both teams win this trade, a free asset for MTL and playoff depth for the Caps

“Demoted“? There’s little difference in our top 3 lines. And while this isn’t a loss for the habs by any means, it’s great for the caps. And you obviously haven’t been watching the games if you think that Kovalchuk hasn’t been playing well, even in the last 7 games, points or not.
