I rip on AJ alot, but that's too much to send to CHI IMO.

Sandin will most likely end up better than Murphy and Dermott could as well. Johnsson himself is also valuable. The fact that we're the ones adding picks is kind of weird.
Highly unlikely Dermott is better then Murphy someday, Dermott is likely a solid 3rd pairing, maybe a #4. Sandin is hard to say, not exactly living up to expectations yet....very similar to Beaudin. Hawks have prospects Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin, Carlsson, Vlasic, Regula....last thing we need is another prospect that isn't a bonafide #1 or at least top 2. We also still have De haan, Maatta, Koekko, Murphy, Keith and Seabs. You can start appreciating the logjam Hawks have on defense.
AJ, for $3.4M cap hit, on pace for a staggering 15 goals this season, coming off a season ending knee injury resulting in surgery is not a risk many teams will want to take for his lack of production and cost. If you look at his advanced stats away from Matthews, they are pretty bad. Hawks, nor most teams, don't see much value in AJ.
So while this trade may be an overpayment, it includes a bunch of pieces the Hawks don't need and likely would just peddle away for picks, players and prospects that would benefit them.
