Good deal to lock up a solid 3C for his prime years. Faksa should rebound to his normal 15 goal, 30 point self next year, maybe a bit better but it’s not expected. Plus he’s really good on the defensive side of the game.
This is great news for Montreal, while Danault is obviously better, the fact that an elite defensive center got this kind of contract should be good for Montreal and bad for Danault
this is a solid deal for both the player and the team.
The going rate for a 3C is in the 3 to 3.5 range. So he didn't take a pay cut. And the term is about what you should expect in the modern NHL. Taking him till 31. teams don't want locked into those past prime years.
