This is a W for Arizona. Only because they're a poverty franchise in need of draft picks.

It would be a lot easier to cheer for them if they didn’t have the worst ownership in the league.

At the same time you're looking at today's Coyotes through the lens of every mistake the previous ownership/management made.

Last year's draft shenanigans are about the only indictment on the current ownership. Pretty questionable things in regards to the draft but if the long-term goal is Houston, this is the right kind of move to make for the Coyotes.

Did you not see the articles about the absolute mess that franchise is right now? It was a big story during the off-season last summer/fall.

Surprisingly low price for taking on Ladd's contract. Considering that Carolina got pick #13 for taking on the Marleau buyout, this is a really good deal for the Isles.

Getting rid of Lad and not having to give up a 1st is a W for the Isles.

Does AZ need to pay the 3million signing bonus or just the $1million base salary?

Dumping Ladd should cost a low 1st.

In some drafts, the value of the 3 picks that Arizona is getting would be roughly equal to the value of a low 1st.

The 1 game that Andrew Ladd plays in 2022/2023 and that would clinch the 3rd round pick for Arizona will likely be Ladd's last game in his NHL career.

The legend of Andrew Ladd lives on.

I voted fair deal smile

Alright the one-game-played condition is hilarious.

I think the Islanders did pretty well given the circumstances.

Dub for Isles to clear that cap.

TB shouldn't have to pay a thing to move TJ after this one. His cap hit is smaller and unlike Ladd he's actually an NHL level player.

Lamoriello got fleeced lol

Ladd should have cost a 1st + 2nd to move. Two late 2nds and a 3rd is great for the isles

That's a lot for 2 years of Ladd. Idk how else we were going to get cap space, though, lol

Also, why is the pick transferred if Ladd plays? Shouldn't it be if he doesn't play?

well, no, that's still the whole point. you really think Lou Lamoriello wanted to burn 3 draft picks on dumping Andrew Ladd's contract? hell no. he had to because that's the reality of the salary cap world.

sure, he gets the cap space now to sign Sorokin/Beauviller/Pelech, but he still had to burn assets to do it.

again, to re-iterate, *cap space is king* nowadays.

Didn't cost him too much. Net loss of a conditional 2nd and 3rd to clear up 11 mil. That's a lot less than I would have expected.

Just understood why the conditional 3rd round pick was in for. My best guess is that if Ladd retires July 2nd 2022 he's getting his $3mil singing bonus and he's leaving only $1mil on the table and Arizona is off the hook for the last year cap wise

Ah okay. So I guess it's one game NHL or AHL.
This move turns to an Arizona W if Ladd suddenly has a career ending injury wink

I think you’ve got the wrong idea here. The Islanders just cleared $15 million for a 2nd and a 3rd round pick over the last 2 days. (Plus swapping Leddy/Panik, but this is still a massive W for the Isles)

Yeah people are getting mad at Lou but this was really smart. He is rlly amazing
