Swapping Zaitsev for Murphy would be sick, but trading their 2022 1st to make it happen would be unbelievably short sighted.

Trade makes no sense for the Sabres
We aren’t ready to ship our young assets for that kind of Vet yet
And Kane isn’t gonna accept a trade here right now anyways
We aren’t good enough yet- heck, we aren’t any good at all
He’d wanna go somewhere he has a chance to win

The only chance he’s received were his 8 games last year, in which he played great. Showed incredible vision and puck moving ability. 5 pts in 8 games as a 19 year old sounds decent to me.

He had a brief stint at the beginning of the year in which he hardly played and was put in less than ideal positions. Then got sent down as he needed more time in the AHL.

He’s 20, has 14 pts in 18 games in the AHL. On pace for nearly 60 pts as a defenseman. Doing pretty well IMO.

Add an unprotected 2022 1st round pick and the pens maybe trade you Pettersson. But straight up 1 for 1, hell no. Pettersson is better than McCabe
