So like Karlsson comes cheap now yeah? Like Barrie, Foegele, Kesselring/Kemp, and a pair of firsts?

What a steal for New Jersey holy. Not 1 major piece going back. A bunch of late 1st's. not nothing of Meier's quality.

I hate this trade.
I absolutely hate it
There is no need to make it now.
This Devils core haven't made the playoffs ONCE and they're spending futures like Bolts chasing a dynasty and not like a team that HAS WON ONE PLAYOFF GAME SINCE 2012 COME ON MAN.
THERE IS NO NEED TO TAKE SUCH A MASSIVE RISK RIGHT NOW
Is Fitzy so frickin scared to lose to the Rags in the 1st rd just get baited into a terrible value deal like that.
In 3-4 years when Meier hits 30, tailing off and not providing value on his contract any longer the Devils are gonna massively regret this move.

It's so shortsighted

Nothing the Devils gave up will likely ever be as good as Meier this feels like an overreaction.

I mean they got an elite winger which is what they were lacking. Still have Nemec, Hughes, and Casey to round out the elite d-core soon. Got to keep Mercer and Holtz to add to the forwards. Maybe need a more proven goaltender but the Devils look set. Maybe acquire a good 3C as well

Devils fans think they lost the trade and Sharks fans think they lost the trade. Usually an indication that it is pretty fair value

this is a devils landslide wtf..... they lost nothing that they will regret (ie Holtz, Gritysuk)
this could be the worst trade in the Sharks history

Have to disagree a fair amount here.

When you trade your best player it always looks bad at first, but you got 2 First which always have value, A young Dman who's been playing in the KHL for 3 years and looks fairly promising imo. A player in Zetterlund who is they type you love to have on your team. And a few extras. Signing Meier long term would've been the bigger mistake, Wilson did that with Hertl.

Mate, you're way too attached for your B-prospects.

The biggest win for NJ here is that they did not lose any key assets. They kept all of Mercer, Nemec, Holtz and the like, and got the most coveted asset in the market. That in itself is absolutely a W.

If anything, Sharks are taking the risk here, since none of the assets they got are considered, much less guaranteed, to be anywhere near Meier's level.

Tbh I'd say fair trade, helps the Devils get better now and the Sharks future.

No top prospect is gone, but potentially two first's are on the line with a lot of assets going the other way.

Meier is one of the best forwards in Sharks history and you sold for quantity. Only Muk is of value.
This trade needed to be a win - and its "eh".
Every team is looking for a Timo Meier and the Devils lost NOTHING of consequence. NOTHING - hurts the Devils future.

NHLfan10506 you got your wish, no Holtz, it only cost Muk + an additional 1st.

I think Grier did well here.

-- Zetterlund is a tank, plays heavy, should be top-6 option in near term. Played well here, but was clearly expendable option.
-- Mukhamadullin is high upside project with all the tools.
-- Okhotiuk is big hitter, 3rd pair option (and loses waiver exempt status next year, so not a huge loss if we extend Graves).
-- Johnsson is cap move (and it’s a hard “J” now like John)
-- Picks are great

My offer early on was Muk plus two 1sts…and it looks like they got Zetterlund, Okhotiuk on top of that for the retention and taking Johnsson. Two pieces that should help SJS, but without waiver protection, weren’t obviously pieces long-term in NJD.

Good deal for both sides.

Wilson Jr is gone - I cannot have faith in our drafting as we haven't seen Grier draft..

For what its worth the 2023 pick is money. But it was also a given.

I dont even value it (every team needed to offer one) - so a conditional 2024, zetterlund (oh another mid 6 forward for our other 30), and a 3rd pairing D + Muk who was basically also a requirement imo.....

So Grier essentially met the bare minimum and let ANOTHER gm walk over him.

Sure, did SJ not get the quality it could’ve gotten yes but the sheer quantity certainly will help SJ set up their future and NJ gets another amazing winger for their young team

This is not a value trade for the Devils.
The competitive window got at least 2 years shorter on the backend.
By 2029 this team is gonna get slower, bloated, kinda old and not have any cap flexibility whatsoever.
If Timo Meier doesn't give us a dynasty in the 20s, this trade will not have been worth it at all.

Massive Grier W.

Okhotiuk and Zetterlund both have to pass through waivers next year. FZ has played well, but doesn’t sting to lose him. Muk may sting in a couple of years. But we just got an elite player without giving up any core pieces. I’d say good for both sides, provided we can extend Meier to reasonable deal and keep Bratt.

Well the asking price was basically a first, top prospect, and roster player.

The Sharks got a first and roster player. Holtz would have been the top prospect in the deal, but instead they got a conditional 2024 first, Muk, Ohotiuk, and Johnsson.

you could argue Johnsson is negative value again let a gm walk him. Fitz kept all his shiny toys (that he has plenty of) and gave Grier Lincoln logs.

Im happy with Muk, after that its all just "................................ok.."

I think Grier’s comments after trading 11th pick last summer should have been good indication that he wanted quantity (and quality).

I think you guys will love Zetterlund in short-term…and if Muk comes close to his ceiling, you will look back on this deal favorably.
