Was this a good signing?

I get they need to reach the floor and entice these guys to stay but if your not gonna make the playoffs this contract is not moveable now even at 50% ret along with Foligno

If I was Chicago I would have called LA as they have to move someone like Arvidsson or Moore to bring in a goalie

Holy overpay. 4M? Bro...

At least the Hawks have cap space but like this is just wasteful. Guess it's just one year?

I imagine the conversation went something like this KD- "Corey, we'd really like you to play for us next season and give us some veteran leadership" Perry-"**** no, I want to win another cup" KD-"I'll give you 4 million dollars" Perry-"where do I sign?"

That seems very accurate

I'm really starting to think that Davidson isn't cracked up for this.
He has been mostly horrible as GM

There's no guarantee that those moves are even available, especially since we didn't see much movement at the draft. If I'm Winnipeg, I'm not paying to move Wheeler when he has a very manageable buyout and there's probably not much on the market for them to improve this year anyway, LA only paid a second to move an AHL goalie making 2 x $5m. Johansen didn't cost anything to move. Hayes only cost cap retention for a team starting a rebuild. Vancouver is supposedly out of the cap dump game after buying out OEL. If these moves were available to make they likely would've been made by now, and the Hawks can still make them if one does become available.

La paid way more. La paid a second and a decent depth d and retained about 2 million. So they paid all that to trade essentially a goalie at 3 mil

Why did they give up a pick for him? Did they think some other team would even offer half of this?

a 7th is worth it to secure an NHL asset that you want. If a contender came around with a really good pitch on July 1st and offered him 1-1.5 million, he might take it before even considering CHI's offer. this lets them get their foot in the door first and make sure they get what they want.

Good luck Corey. Kind shocked now Davidson didn't name Perry when asked to name NHLers at the draft.

I’m usually against big overpays but I don’t mind this. Chicago has cap space and Perry’s mentorship will be useful.

Overpay, but it's for 1 year. I enjoy watching Corey Perry so it'll be fun to watch him on the ice when Bedard isn't.

I'll bet they retain 50% and move him to a contender at the deadline. That way he still gets to chase a Cup while getting his last big payday.

They were never in danger of missing the Cap floor, so this is just too much money for a player that's too old.

It wouldve made sense if it was a contract that you could eat half at the TDL and move him for assets when youre season is almost over....but $2mil might be tough to swallow let alone fit on your roster.

if rumors are to be believed, it seems like he took the "be a dad to bedard" assignment too literally

When they don’t say what actually happened, rumors are bound to circulate, but Davidson said it didn’t involve any players or their families. He may not tell the whole truth, but I’d like to think he wouldn’t lie about it. It would just make him look bad when the truth eventually does come out.

I have no idea what actually happened. I guess it's none of my business, but I am curious, mainly because I'm wondering what the chances are he'll be back in the NHL again at some point. He seems to have defined himself as the prototypical gritty 4th-liner everybody wants for a playoff run.
