LOL ..... Sens don't know if Chychrun can play 69 or 70 games yet, forgetting completely about the playoffs... trying to instill confidence, they're going to have to reinforce D. They just gave monies away.

Too much, too soon?
I dont say jake does not worth it. But i think the sample size is too small to make sure he's that guy.
This year is last year of Chabot contract without a trade clause. Could it mean something is brewing next year?

Yeah, so this definitely seems premature.

Gotta ask, why did OTT trade for Jakob Chychrun. Are they planning on paying 3 LD over 7+ million.

Ya they're good at hockey

People called the Tage Thompson and Jack Hughes deals an overpay at the time. Yes this may look like an overpay today but it'll look like a steal in a couple years

Bad news for Sabres fans hoping we could lock up OP for 8 years at less than 8 mil per season.

Why?

Hes a solid defensemen yes, but he's not like a 70 point Shutdown defense yet. Only reason why he got paid is because he's 21, but even then he has 1 years of experience in the NHL

I voted no for now but this certainly has the potential to be a good deal for years 4-8, we’ll see how Sanderson develops

Let's face it, paying a guy 64 million after 77 games is risky. It's not like Sanderson was a Calder Finalist either. Not saying we won't outperform that contract, but look at a Myers for example, insane rookie year and downhill from there. Again, not saying its gonna happen with Sanderson, but there is definitely some risks

to be fair, he was better than power and defo should've been a finalist

He was pretty good, i won’t remove that, but basically what I’m trying to come to is that a lot of rookies have been semi disappointing after their rookie year, and statistically speaking, Sanderson has a much bigger chance to disappoint with that contract, than a guy that has more proven numbers

Giving $64M to a 21 y.o. after his rookie season. What could go wrong?

At this point, just givem 8 years contracts right on draft day. Who needs to prove they can play a solid full season in the big league anyway?

Can he act, sing and dance at least.

Real triple threat material.

Why do College hockey players get to avoid the entry level slide>?

College is not a pro hockey season.

Sanderson should be starting season 2 of his elc, not season 3 already.

Question is why wonder Sanderson sign an 8 year deal instead of a 3 year bridge deal for maybe $5 million per? Then he could really break the bank after that! Does he not believe he will be good enough in 3 years, so just take the easy money? I'm sorry, he maybe a good player but 77 games to me is just not enough time to judge to give a guy this much! People say this contract could look real good in a couple years, it could also be an anchor on the Sens' Salary Cap!

I'm curious how pissed off Chychrun is. Dude came off a .38ppg season as a 1st pair D in AZ and signed a 6 year $4.6M per deal when the cap ceiling was $81.5M. Sanderson coming off ONE YEAR at .41ppg season NOT on the 1st pair while the cap was $83.5M...got EIGHT MILLION PER!!!!

***EDIT*** Honest question here. How is his contract even up? He played zero games in 2021-2022. He signed his deal on March 22nd of 2022. I know I'm the one missing something, but it still feels off.

Sanderson was Ottawa's best defenseman last year. By the end of the season, he was relied on to play the toughest minutes. He's already used in a top pairing role. He can do everything from be a shutdown guy, transition, PP, etc. The typical cap hit percentage for a defenseman who breaks out as a top pairing D on their ELC and signs a 7-8 year deal has historically been between 10-11 percent.

This is a no-brainer contract. If they don't sign him now, he isn't coming in cheaper next year. He will either come in at a similar price, more expensive, or they will have to risk signing a 2-3 year 5-6 million AAV type bridge deal.

Chabot's AAV likely also influenced what Sanderson received. Hilariously, the got 50k more than Chabot.

One year of his ELC contract got the College slide.

Did the Senators just sign this deal to screw over the Buffalo Sabres? Did this deal make Dahlin an extra million dollars
