That's about what I'd pay for someone like Beauvillier.

Fair deal

Beauvillier is on pace for about 30 points this season and his on-ice goal differential is 5.4 ABOVE expected. He's a good player. Unfortunately for the Canucks, he was so far down the depth chart that he was playing 4th line minutes this season and you can't pay your 4th liner $4.15 million.

I suspect he will play a LOT more in Chicago and will score lot more points, so Chicago might have won this trade. On the other hand, you usually have to give up assets to get $4.15 million in cap space, so the Canucks might have won this trade.

Call it a fair deal.

Beauvillier played really good last year on a line with pettersson, but I dont see why you'd want him on that line over kuzmenko or mikheyev so he was doomed to the 4th line. Now they have cap space to make a move for a defensman.

Vancouver gets 4 million in cap space to add a defenceman (Hello Ethan Bear) a roster spot and gets a high 5th round pick, Chicago gets a winger to play with Bedard for cheap and Beauvillier gets out of a bad fit and an opportunity to play top 6 minutes with Bedard.

A win for all sides.

Wow I think Chicago wins here marginally tbh. The condition does make it a bit better for Vancouver though.

Makes sense for both sides

Beau was 4th line in Van and for that money not idea

Than for Chicago you had Hall out with injury and Perry terminated

That said surprised CHI couldn't get Van to pay to move as they just gifting them cap space.

Fair deal, Beau’s decent and Chicago needs bodies but he was getting paid 4mil and he was stuck behind too many players in Vancouver.

Amen for no more AGMs of Beau to MTL for a 3rd+, Monahan or Dvorak.

That capspace should make Vancouver fans extatic enough! Next TDL just got a lot more exciting ... But please stop overating your small wingers (next to) no one wants.

Im not impressed by Chicago's plan this season to provide Bedard some simili decent wingers. Just dumpster diving at this point.

Beauvilier the cap dump despite every Vancouver fan quoting his metrics and ignoring the very thing that this site dictates..the salary cap. The irony got dull. Glad to see him out of there! Canucks fans now can be trading Garland for 2nd round picks to Boston

Beau is overpaid, but he's still a decent player. Win to CHI, but given how important cap space is, it's not too surprising that this is all VAN could get.

The more I look at this, the worse it gets for Chicago

Chicago
- Gets a forward who's been a bad 3rd liner the past few years.
- Makes 4 Million
- Better players in free agency
- Gave up an asset

Vancouver
- Got 4m in cap space
- got a late pick for someone who should have negative value
- can afford to get a defender
- Better forwards in FA if they want to upgrade

Clear as day a win for Vancouver.

I mean, it's fine for both sides right? Kinda just a cap dump by Vancouver and Chicago getting a 3rd line winger who will probably play on the 1st line lol.

Yep. This is a classic win-win. Actually, it's win-win-win.

Chicago desperately needed a forward and gave up very little to get one.
Vancouver desperately needed cap space to get another defenceman and actually got an asset back to move out $4 million in cap space.
Beauvillier gets to go to a team where he will have a real shot at playing with Bedard and if he clicks on that line he will get a RAISE in the off season.

You call him a cap dump, but there's a real chance he gets a raise this summer.

It’s disappointing that the only NHL roster player Vancouver got for Bo Horvat didn’t end up making a lasting contribution. It looked for a while last season like he would, but maybe he’s one of those guys who needs to play in the top 6 to be effective but is only good enough to do that on a bad team. Vancouver isn’t a bad team anymore. Considering that he probably had negative value when they acquired him, they did well to turn him into somebody they could get something back for in a trade while shedding 100% of his cap hit.

From Chicago’s perspective, they really have nothing to lose with this deal. There’s no commitment to Beauvillier beyond this season, he can help them now because they’re down a couple of forwards with Hall and Perry out, the pick has minimal value to them since they have seven picks in the first three rounds, and they still have over $15M of cap space (including Hall’s $6M, which could go on LTIR since he’s out for the season) that they can use if they have a chance to gain from taking on a cap dump or salary retention.

Good trade for both teams unless one of Vancouver’s top 6 forwards suffers a long-term injury, in which case they may wish they still had Beauvillier to fill in, but keeping a $4M player around just for that possibility is a luxury. Better to move him while you can.

I just checked and Chicago might not be able to put Hall on LTIR. If everyone on Chicago's IR went on LTIR, they would slip below the salary cap MINIMUM. They only have ~$53.5 million in on-ice cap hit and just under $8 million in dead cap space, putting them about $100,000 below the salary cap floor.

On a side note, they will be able to turn that salary cap room into at least one 1st round pick

Yeah, because fans should stop overrating their overpriced wingers...

Guys like Andersen, Gallagher, Pearson, Dvorak, Caufield shouldn't be as overrated as they currently are
