It seems like a lot right now but this contract is going to look so good in a few years. If the Caps weren't such an unbelievably bad offensive team this year his points would be way higher considering he's primarily a passer.

I don't know why they don't put him at center with Ovechkin. He fits the mold of what Ovie needs to be successful

Unexpected signing, but I really like it. Nice gamble to make for the Caps

There’s another Protas I believe draft eligible this year also. He’s also a big MFer

He's worth this much this year, although it is close. Furthermore, he's young and improving, so this is a good signing.

That’s a lot for a fairly unproven player, however, from what I’ve heard, he’s doing well so it’s a slight yes from me at this point

This is very expensive for what he brings. He plays bottom 6 minutes and not very well. Great defensive forward, but is that really worth 3.4M for a player who gets 13 minutes a night?

Washington will probably be bad when Ovi retires so why not take a big swing on a young guy

I like his grit, but jeez just wait 25 until signing them young players long term. He has done nothing to deserve that kind of money.

GREAT signing.

Salary cap will be going up about $4 million per season now.

It's frustrating that they haven't tried it yet, since Protas worked well to set up Ovi last year playing on his wing. Something like an Ovi-Strome-Protas or Ovi-McMichael-Protas line would work wonders.

fair deal. He's already very good defensively, scores enough for a 3rd line role and could improve as career goes on. 3rd liners are gonna increase in price, See someone like M. Foligno, we'll see more similar contracts as Cap continues to go up. In 2 years this could look like a bargain even if he doesn't develop.

Decent signing. Maybe a bit too much money, and the term is kinda weird. IMO a 3 year bridge deal in the 1.75-2.5 mil range would be fairer as he still expires an RFA.

It’s kinda a high risk, high reward contract. I think it’s too much right now, but in the next few years it’ll be good.

These contracts seem to be the norm for 2 way forwards

Yeah and they don't end to age well. Especially considering they already have Ovechkin for 3 more year at 9.5 and Wilson 6.5 until the end of time.
