Arguably the Habs would be better off if the conditional pick isn’t realized.

Worst case is the Jets make it to the cup finals but lose.

I honestly want to see the cup back in Canada and wish all the best to Monahan so once the playoffs start…Go Jets.

How can you possibly vote Jets here.. Were talking about a guy the Flames payed a 1st to get rid of, and is not a game breaker by any means.

This trade makes me love the Lindholm add so much more lol.

I also see the fit on longer term for WPG.

I think it's also valuable for WPG if a player wants to sign for longer term with them. Monahan always played in Canada. It's a real possibility

fair deal with the market IMO

Ignore that, he's a 50 PT 2nd line center making 2 Million. That's why he's worth a 1st.

Fair deal on both sides imo. Jets have Montreals 2nd from the PLD trade anyway so we are probably gonna only slide 10-15 picks outside of the first. Excellent asset management from both sides. Jets don’t need a first this year with how well we have drafted. Would rather pay this price than what the Canucks paid for a dude who hasn’t scored a goal in almost half the season.

Heh. Lindholm plays against top lines and is a Selke caliber defensive center.

Monahan plays against 2nd and 3rd lines, and oh my he is not. And half his points come on the PP, he does precious little 5v5 against mid competition.

Look at his 5v5 numbers, though. Congrats on the 1st, but it's an overpay before we even get to his health considerations. Like I said, though, I'm all for this trade on every level. I love it.

Aha lets just ignore the facts eh. Take a look at Monahan 5v5 and see what impact hes making.. Its so mid and he doesnt play against elite competition. Gives up more than he generates, will he even play PP in Wpg? Likely not..

The ONLY reason Monahan is getting this type of return is due to limited options on the market, there just isnt that many Centers available.

What I like about this trade is that both Habs fans and Avs fans were correct: Sean Monahan did fetch a 1st round pick, but not from Colorado.

Cheers

The value of a player currently is not always tied to their value in the past.
Players' performance and circumstances change and cause their value to fluctuate.

Winnipeg isn't losing anything because Monahan was a cap dump a couple of years ago. That's just not part of the equation for them.
He was a $5M injured player on a cap strapped team. Now he's a $2M healthy player that is performing well.
Those two players are very different in value.

Monahan has 46% of his points on the pp.. doubt he is good enough to be on the Jets pp.... feels like a horrible trade considering Vancouver got Lindholm

he has 17 5v5 points.... 46% of his point totals this year are ppp and hes likely not playing on thier top unit right?

Don't even think the Jets lost it's the fact that they got two firsts and a conditional third for Monahan

If I had to guess, he would play 2nd line 5V5 and PP2

With the amount of LBI's he's had over the last 3 years, feels like a matter of time before he's hurt again.

that's not a whole lot. I would've signed him instead, what's a late first rounder gonna do for us. very low rate of success with those.

Who said it is a late? You?

It still has a top 20 potential today.

Whatever the value, it is still at least stwice as valuable as the 3rd round pick TML fans were offering for Monahan...

makes VAN's acquisition of Lindhom look even better. MTL certainly wins regardless of what the Jets do in the playoffs.

I'm pretty amazed that it's an UNPROTECTED 1st ... If this was to go to lotto and win a 10 spots jump Winterpeg DG would be fired on the spot!

I don't think I've ever seen a "if we win the cup" clause on a draft pick before. Also, Hughes masterclass.

"Multiple morale changes for signing Sean Monahan and immediately trading him away." Now that's what I call a stellar trade for MTL!
