That's rich and I would have tried to go LONG term on him but overall it is fine within the confines of their cap (for now). People laughed when I said he might get 5-6@8.5 and now after this contract that doesn't seem far off (it might even be short).
POINT had 3rd year QO of $9M and will miss at least 1st month after surgery .. so I see Tchuck contrcat a little less in value.. however I think BOTH players will be north of $10M in 2 to 3 years ..
Good deal, gets them under the cap with no trades and a value contract for a couple years. The nine million qualifying offer isn't bad either, since he would have probably gotten about nine long term anyways.
Laine has to be mad right now. With this and the point comparable, a three year bridge has to give him about six and a half.
Awful Contract, With the new Tv deal and betting agreement salary cap is going to blow up! when all the RFAs on bridge deals run out in three years they're going to want big bucks.

If he keeps improving he'll be worth a major boost in salary.

Look at Marner's contract for example. It may seem high now but he's signed for 6 years. Which means as cap goes up his cap % will get better and better for Toronto every year
I think this contract goes to show how much Point is willing to take a discount on his contract. People yelling at Marner's contract being high are valid but Point making what he's making based on the market and situation is the other side of the spectrum.
Do folks not understand the $9M QO in year 3 of his deal and he still not UFA .. so in essence he will get LT contract in couple years north of $10M to $12M. plus he had HIP SURGERY in Summer and will miss at least first month of season.. look at those 3 items and I think Point did fine ... as did Tampa who will pay MORE in long run but get covered for any injury stuff
