Today, I want to compare 2 of the best centers of the salary cap era.
Over their careers, Malkin has scored 416 goals & 1076 points in 907 career regular season games (point per game of 1.19). In the playoffs, he has 63 goals and 168 points in 162 games (point per game of 1.03). He has won 3 cups, a Hart, 2 scoring titles, a Conn Smythe, a Lindsey & a Calder.
Patrice Bergeron has a 352 goals and 869 points in 1089 regular season games (PPG average of 0.7979). In the playoffs, he has 40 goals & 103 points in 136 games (PPG of 0.7576). He has won 4 Selke trophies.
In terms of defensive play, Malkin’s expected goals against ranks in the 33rd percentile with a career defensive point share of 21.4. Bergeron’s highest ranks in the 94th percentile and has a career defensive point share of 30.5.
Personally, I’d say Malkin has been the better player. Even though Bergeron is far superior defensively, I feel Malkin’s skill level & ability to take over games single handedly is too hard to ignore.
Malkin has the NHL "chops" won but Bergy is the INTL (and some NHL too) "Zen-Master"
* Malkin's better offensively but I voted Bergy for the more complete game and leadership.
Thats really hard to compare: you are talking about very different players even though they play the same position:
Im guessing a lot of people will saying Malkin because of who he is, when he was drafted, and how many points he had. Also people hate the bruins
Im not gonna say Bergy is definitely better, but if i HAD to build a team around one of them, im going with Bergy because he is probably just better all around

I'd probably say Malkin. Offense is elite, defense isnt bad. If you looked at it from a positional standpoint, I would rather have an offensively gifted center with 2 defensive defensemen to cover his back than have a defensive center with 2 offensively gifted defensemen to take some of the stress off the center. Neither is a particularly bad situation to be in, but I think the first option is the conventional and ideal route to go.

I man would you rather build a team around a McDavid or a couturier ? answer seems pretty obvious

Gap between McDavid/Couturier is way bigger than Malkin/Bergeron
its not.... im sorry. its more of an example. teams don't uild around players that are accessory players. they build around superstars... Malkin is a full blow superstar.
