Its capfriendly, people here take everything seriously and think their opinion is objective

I personally cant see price getting more than a 1st + good prospect + roster player with his uncertainties, but if this was before injuries, it would fetch a lot more

You will be very disappointed with the actual return if they do ever trade Price

Most of these trades are 1st + good prospect + immediate goalie. But I had to add a goalie prospect while trading our goalie prospect, or adding a player since we would retain

In my opinion, Carey Price is untradeable right now. The combination of the monster contract plus his physical and mental health uncertainties (certainly not trying to make light of either), I don’t think any team is willing to take on the risk. Price has had an incredible career and he proved just a few months ago that he’s still an elite goaltender when healthy. But I think there has to be way more certainty about his future before a team even considers acquiring him, let alone giving up assets.

price is 35 and his contract ends when he is 40? with injury/surgeries/substance abuse.. if habs retain 50%, he is still overpaid for his age, would pay a 2nd and nothing else.. would rather draft the best goalie in the first round and throw him in the next year then touch price, have you seen his regular season stats?

Most of these trades are that. For example:

Colorado: we would get: 1st, barron, francouz. Annunen and primeau are swapped, 3rd and beaucage is for retention on price, and compher is there to settle the salary cap

Edmonton we would get: 1st, Holloway, Konovalov, koskinen ( who has no value). Wanner is added since Habs are retaining

In Ottawa: I meant to give the 3rd to Ottawa not to montreal, therfore we can get sogaard for the 3rd, and Ottawa has many goalie prospects so it would be fine.

San jose: we would get 1st, Merkley, hill. Gaudreau and primeau are swapped. Simek costs a 3rd and 7th to give to us, I didn't even charge for retention there.

Wahington: we would get 1st, lappiere, samsonov ( we'll count him as roster player and the swap for primeau) the retention of price, plus us taking kempny gives us Iorio, and 4th.

          I hope that was clear

You’re going to get at most 2 2nds even at 50% retained, there’s just no market for him with the uncertainty. Fleury was given away for free, in an expansion draft then a trade after winning a vezina. Price in his current state has no value, you’d need him to come back and show vezina caliber form to even get to the two 2’s valuation. He’s old, has a mountain of issues (hope he gets well), and his contact is ridiculous. Habs fans will be disappointed

Let’s be real Eichel a 25yr old elite 1C yes with an injury and no salary retained returned 3 pieces, on what sane planet does a 35yr old goalie (who have no where near the value of elite 1C) is somehow going to return 6 or 7 pieces? MTL fans are putting an obscene amount of importance into a 2 month stretch and ignoring the last 4 years. You don’t think opposing GM’s are going to raise the exact same arguments that are brought up here?

I doubt he’s worth half of this. Too many issues and uncertainties combined with age and an awful contract.

Ottawa isn’t a good trade partner for Price because they have Murray at $6.25MM already.

In fun or not your asking McDavid prices for a beat down over aged Goalie on a horrid contract that hurts Montreal and any team that would be foolish enough to trade for him.

I've seen so many Habs fans suggest he's somehow one of the most valuable trade assets in the NHL, but none of them ever show their work, so to speak. Nobody ever explains why an aging, declining, injury plagued goalie who makes too much money even at 50% retained, is worth trading anything for let alone trading everything for.

no team is giving up prime assets for Price,
Avs would rather have Francouz in net then tripling the salary in that position while giving up a 1st and a barron and Annunen.

at 50% retained price isnt worth his contract, every anylitcal model shows that. getting hot for a couple weeks in the playoffs that he wasn't even good enough as as tarting to get in the regular season if it wasn't for the locked divisional format doesnt erase his poor declining play over the past 4+ seasons.

When Habs fans try to trade away Chiarot and Petry, other fans bases say they are not top 3 Dmen and they only looked good all the way to the Stanley cup final because of Price miracles.

When Habs fans try to trade Price away, he is now supposedly declining and has no value.

          Always moving the goal post.

The truth is that a healthy Price still has a high value.

Just watch him play, here's your proof.

It's not "moving the goalposts" It's three separate statements that are all completely valid. Ben Chiarot is bad (though is almost definitely a valuable asset for the Habs to deal), Petry is aging, declining and expensive (betting on 34 year olds bouncing back is always a major risk that pays off pretty rarely), and Price is neither healthy nor is he playing.

1- To be fair, I don;t think anyone is denying that Petry was good last season. What they are saying is he has fallen off a cliff this season and is 34 signed until he's 37, and I can't imagine there being a good argument against any of that. As for Chiarot, yeah, some folks have said what you said they said. Many other just think his playoff performance was and remains overrated. And that he has also fallen off a cliff this season.

2- Sitting out the entire year tends to do that to one's value, no? Especially when one is on 10.5M until 2026.

So is any of that wrong to you? Maybe I'm goofy, but that all seems quite fair to say.

There's no such things as "falling of a cliff".

Still the same human beeings, still the same talent. Without major injuries, players dont just "get old" over the summer.

The real reason why their performances sucks this season is because 10 players are missing every games on average, including the top goalie and No1&4 defensemen since game 1... they don't play well because they are surrounded by AHL players and off the playoff race since mid-october. Trade them to an NHL level team with playoff hope and they will be as good as 8 months ago in the SCF.

I'm not agreeing with his value being insane.
He does have that "next level" ability however, where he can steal games you have no business being in. That doesn't matter at present, as he's unable to play, but if he still has that, he has value to a team looking for a difference maker in goal.

If a team *wants* him to complete their playoff picture, a trade could be possible. You could be getting "Price" practically free, but you'd have to pay to account for some of the retention. Montreal would like to reward him with the opportunity to win a cup, as long as it doesn't hurt them to do so.

A trade should account for about $3M in retained cap for the remaining length of his contract. (Montreal should be okay retaining up to $2.5M even if they are getting nothing in return.)

If there's no such trade to be had, Montreal should keep Price until they are forced into a decision. Buying him out saves $1.5M (with an inconsequential $500k cap hit for an equal number of years). If his career ends before his contract, it will probably be on the IR. Either scenario is preferable to a "dump" or 50% retained with no value coming back.

1- Oh my. Okay, dude. Like this has never happened before.

2- I see. So what time of the year do they get old? Does this only happen in winter? Spring? It happens when it happens. And when it happens at 34, well, there's usually no magical Indian summer. Could there be a rebound? Sure. There could. I just would not go around banking on it. None of your potential trade partners are going to. At least not in negotiations.

3- First of all, I would love to hear how you think have a lesser goalie in net makes a defenseman play worse. Like I'm not even sure how that would work. Secondly, and more importantly, their poor performance hes been a large driver of their sprint to the bottom. Besides, plenty of teams "next man up" it well enough with AHL players. Hell, the Blues suffered a biblical injury/COVID crisis last season, including missing right about half the team for weeks on end, and still made the playoffs. And let's be honest, other than Price and Weber, the lion's share of MTL's man games lost this season have not been key cogs. Byron represents like 15% of their total and he should be quite replaceable. Nearly every skater on that team has slumped this season. It ain't because you've had to turn to back-up goalies.

But hey, you go ahead and wait for your monster Petry and Chiarot returns. I'd bring a book or two.

STL had 378 man games lost in 56 games last season. (With Binnington, Huso, Faulk, Krug and Scandella playing full or near full seasons, for reference)

MTL has 412 man games lost in 44 games so far...

I dont know what is worst than a biblical injury crisis, but MTL is way passed that. Thank you for helping me prove my point.
