I’d say Laine was a decent amount more valuable than Dach, and Roslovic was definitely more valuable than Armia. Caufield would be a closer comparable to Laine (obviously Montreal wouldn’t trade him though)

      We can Offersheet PLD 1 year 6.2M so the Habs would giive 1st 2024 + 3rd 2024.

Of course the Jets can match him but they cant trade him for a whole year after so PLD walks out as UFA and the Jets gets nothing...

Neither Laine nor Dubois were pending UFAs and both wanted a change of scenery. This situation is very different.

MTL won't trade Dach for Dubois.

First off the value for this is way off. PLD has had such a great season that his value is higher than it was in Columbus. Second Kirby Dach is good just not Laine good and Armia would not have the same value as Roslovic did when he was traded

To who and for what return?

There aren't that many teams that are comfortable trading away premium pieces away for a guy who won't re-sign with them and won't be cheap capwise either.

Any number of contenders. There is no real evidence beyond speculation that if traded to a contender, in a nice city, that Dubois couldn't be convinced to resign. And either way as a full year rental he can get more than a 1st and a 3rd in all likelihood

jets wouldn't match lol unprotected 2024 first and third and saving 6m in cap is quite a good deal lol not to mention mtl is still not a playoff team so most likely a lottery pick

Contenders usually don't have a ton of cap space so adding $6m minimum would probably be pretty tough to fit which is why most players traded at the deadline have retained salary (something you can't do if you trade him at the draft).

If "Any number of contenders" can make the trade then name them. From my perspective Tampa, Toronto, Vegas, Edmonton, Florida, NYR, NJ, Calgary, Colorado and Pittsburgh don't project to have the cap to make it work and Carolina is believed to have a policy against trading 1st round picks for pending UFAs. That sort of limits the list pretty significantly.

Lastly you are right that we can't be 100% certain that Dubois wouldn't re-sign with a contender if traded there, but when the top insider in the game says that he is 95% sure Dubois is going to MTL that counts for quite a bit given how much these guys like to hedge.

Again this wouldn't be a deadline deal. Its at the draft where teams have more flexibility due to expiring deals

I'm aware of that. My whole argument was regarding how making a deal at the draft brought other complications like not being able to lessen the cap hit for a contender.

The only contenders who might possibly be able to trade for Dubois (from a quick look at their Capfriendly page) without having to make significant changes to their cores are Boston, Dallas and maybe LA and Washington. Other than that the other contenders would need to sacrifice a member of their core to fit Dubois' $6m minimum contract.

They aint getting dach nor should they touch Armia. At the draft PLD to MTL for Dvorak & Hoffman and FLA 1st rounder. Dvorak and Hoffman are not in Montreals long term plans. This gives WPG a bottom 6 forward and a #2 centre that are short term to retool and contend. And if WPG are not in contention by the 2024 TDL, FIRE SALE! That means, Schif, Wheeler, Helly, Dvorak, Hoffman, Demelo, Dillion, Nino and Ponik are gone for picks and prospects. Only trade Connor, Ehlers and Jmo for aboslute hauls in return.

If one of Krecji or Bergeron retires the bruins will need a top 6 C. And most teams have a contract they could dump. PLD at 6 mill is not a big price

Plus the Jets could retain and raise his price and the available suitors even more.

What are you on about? Players with similar (or more) salaries were traded @ this year’s TDl, no issues despite all of the teams being up against the cap. Kane, ROR, Tarasenko, Orlav, Meier - retention or double retention will make PLD’s $6M a lot more moveable. Lots of teams would be in on PLD if Jets are moving him @ TDL next year.

Jets aren’t taking back 9M in DV and Hoffman, if they are, Montreal adds a piece. Otherwise move PLDouchbag to a contender in a big market for a later 1st and good prospect without eating a **** ton of cap. Then take on a bad contract with that cap saved for an additional 1st like Montreal did with Monahan
