Really solid signing for the Sens, obviously Pinto didn't have a ton of leverage given his suspension.

I guess Pinto decided to bet on himself...

Must have gone to the Calvin Ridley school of how to be a professional sports athlete... Jokes end here, I promise...

I wonder what he'll get next year though

Yep. Take your lumps on the contract this year, play well and cash in next summer. Unfortunate situation, but it's in the past. Still kinda think 41 games was insane given what is alleged to have happened, but I also understand the need for the NHL to come out swinging against any notion of impropriety with their new gambling sponsors

I remember when we spent the entire second half of last year in AGM fighting over whether we should spend a 1st to dump Joseph, so we could sign Pinto.

Good times awesome face

So pro rated of $1.55 million if he had played a full season.

I said "no". It didn't cover more then the balance of the year. He's looking for a lot more money, and Sens have already paid their 8's. Cap-strapped. None of the current players complained about getting their "8"s either.

1-year deal. So he has to do one more of these before he gets Arb rights. If Ottawa is playing hardball, they’d sign term deal at discount over summer.

Apparently they've spent most of this time talking long term, so technically they could drop another contract whenever they want. It's after Jan 1st.

That work work out well for Sens if they could. Under $2m for 3 years...and still get another RFA year.

I kinda think they go longer. Everything I've read sounds like Staios is a big Pinto believer. He's mentioned his as part of the core a couple of times. I wonder if they aren't gonna try and lock him down to 6 years plus. He's at very worst a well above average 3C, with a good skillset to become much more imo. If you lock him down to 4mil ish I think you're sitting pretty with the big cap jumps coming. I'd be looking at something similar with Greig tbh, he's been Ottawa's best two way forward this season, as a rookie.

Great deal for the team considering the numbers that were being talked about for him before his suspension, but it seems like this just kicks the can down the road, though that’s probably the right thing to do now.

This contract makes sense for both player and team. Pinto needs to prove he can handle the off ice stuff before he can get a big contract.

His ELC expired as a 10.2(c), so he couldn't have been offer sheeted.
